Challenge Yourself with Outdoor Activities

Getting active with the whole family by participating in outdoor activities like hiking, canoeing, and cycling is a great way to stay healthy, while also having fun and reconnecting. If you’re looking for something a little different, consider an activity like ziplining, which offers a great workout, with the added bonus of beautiful views. Enjoying the great outdoors can help take the “work” out of working out, with distractions such as wildlife viewing opportunities and chances to explore places you’ve never been. Getting into the habit of participating in outdoor activities encourages everyone in the family to leave the screens behind and enjoy the fresh air.

Every Part of You

When it comes to true health and wellness, the biggest mistake we make is to think of ourselves and our health in parts. Most of us view our body as being separate from our mind and emotions. Thinking this way can prevent healing, because something that happens to one part of you has an effect on all of you. Emotions generated by personal experiences create chemicals that have a physical effect in your body. Normal bodily functions and reactions to stress produce chemicals that can create emotions. You can’t get away from this connection. Pursuing health from this perspective is the best way to restore balance after it has been lost.

Whats Happening in my Carpet

Mold, bacteria and chemicals of all kinds can settle or be tracked onto carpeting. These biological microbes are alive and thriving in your carpets, and if it remains dirty, they will continue to breed and grow.
Sticky residue from conventional shampooing methods will cause rapid re-soiling due to lack of rinsing and extraction of the chemicals used. Spots and stains will resurface because they were only pushed a little deeper, and the traffic areas will appear dirty sooner for the same reason.
Sand, dust and other hard particles that get embedded in your carpet will cause abrasion of the fibers, making the carpet look dull. Light no longer reflects properly as the tips of the carpet tufts plume, causing a shadow effect – permanently.
All of these things can be prevented by annual professional steam cleaning!

Find a Local Getaway

All too often in our busy lives, rest and relaxation are put on the back burner. Even on our weekends off, we find ourselves jumping out of bed and scrambling to get to our chore list. Give yourself a break! Proper rest and sleep are important parts of a healthy lifestyle. The good news is that you don’t have to travel far or empty your wallet to find a peaceful getaway. Local options are usually more affordable, and they have the added bonus of being easy to travel to, not to mention the fact that planning for a local getaway is a lot less stressful!

Ride Don’t Hide

When we hide, mental health stays hidden. When we ride, we create change. This year, on June 24, ride in plain sight. Ride Don’t Hide. It’s more than the name of the event. It’s also the reason we’re riding. Think about joining the Ride Don’t Hide movement, a Canada-wide community bike ride to build awareness for mental health. Ride Don’t Hide is for riders of all skill levels; it is not a race, but, rather, an opportunity to celebrate mental health and honour the recovery journeys of people who live with mental illness. Join the Ride Don’t Hide movement and celebrate mental health!

Anxiety Much?

When it comes to anxiety and depression, the biggest mistake we make is to view our body as being separate from our mind and emotions. Some of us will talk about these imbalances as a chemical issue. Or, if our personal experience or professional training is different, we may discuss it in the context of some kind of trauma. A drug or a ‘natural’ supplement might never heal an underlying emotional trauma whose repression has left you depressed. Years of counselling might not provide the nutrients needed to balance your adrenal function and the physiological aspects of anxiety. An integrated approach is usually imperative for long-term balance to be achieved.

Kids of Mud

The weather is getting warmer and our children are itching to get out and ride their bikes. Kids of Mud is the official youth cycling program of the Manitoba Cycling Association, focused on developing skills that will help young athletes excel in the sport. Certified coaches and volunteers will teach the young cyclers the basics of off-road cycling with an opportunity to challenge their skill and fitness in any of the MCA mountain bike races open to age category racers. Training with Kids of Mud includes safety, braking, gears, hills, racing (optional), riding over small and large obstacles, trail riding and trail etiquette, and more. Contact Country Cycle or visit kidsofmud.ca for more information and registration.

Adventure Profile

Believe it or not, summer is just around the corner, and those perfect days spent with family and friends are fast approaching. One may not think of Manitoba as a place of geological wonders, however, our own Pembina Valley can be a strikingly beautiful and adventurous place. Especially when those sights are experienced 200ft in the air, soaring across a 1,000ft zipline. Hywire Zipline Adventures features Manitoba’s highest and longest ziplines and is tucked away in a picturesque corner of the valley. The trails covering the property are a great way to get some exercise, and the views and adrenaline rush of the ziplines offer an incomparable sense of adventure.
