WELLness – Thank you, Live Life Alarms

My husband is in the early stages of Alzheimers. He continues to enjoy riding his bike and I used to get very worried as he would sometimes have difficulty finding his way home. Getting him a Live Life mobile alert was the best thing we have done as now I can readily find out quickly where he is. He recently went out cycling and was gone for some time so I called him on his alert pendant. Not only could I talk with him but the Mobile Alert sent me an automatic return text showing his exact location on Google Maps. This has given me so much confidence now and allows him to continue doing what he loves. Vicki Ogston. LiveLifeAlarms.ca

Understanding Yoga Therapy

The core principle of Classical Yoga Therapy is that people have an enormous natural capacity for healing and transformation in which Yoga can play an invaluable role. Whether the desire for healing stems from an illness, injury or from an urge to overcome inner struggle and into a deeper exploration of oneself, a more individual, therapeutic approach to yoga is essential.

Many people associate Yoga with group classes practicing physical postures requiring strength and flexibility whereas  Yoga Therapy is taught 1:1 and can assist most people, even someone laying in a hospital bed. Yoga Therapy addresses your whole Being; Body, Mind and Spirit and is a discipline of identifying and refining the correct practices for you, AS YOU ARE.

During our sessions I observe, listen and question to discover your particular confluence of issues, needs and capabilities such as physiological condition(s,) muscular-skeletal patterns and injuries, age and energy level, daily activities, unique personality and thought patterns, current life situation (we all go through times of engagement, despondency, joy, confusion etc.) Even your particular aspirations and connection to that which gives your life meaning are considered. I then choose the correct practices that will be appropriate for your particular journey into healing and well-being.

As a Yoga Therapist I implement profound tools often overlooked in public classes such as breathing/energy regulation, contemplations, visualizations, meditations, interactive relational practices, lifestyle recommendations and dietary recommendations (based in Ayurveda,) and more. This is a modality that is specific to you and is comprehensive in its scope.

Yoga Therapy requires your diligence in engaging your practice (which may be only 20min/day) as you are the primary impetus in your own healing and well-being. My role as your teacher is to support your healing and recovery by teaching you the correct practices and the accurate undertaking of them. As transformation occurs you notify me so that further modifications and adjustments to your healing practice can be made to suit your evolved state.

I have observed that many people start off with good intentions but over time find it difficult to keep up a practice, I offer additional support in these instances.

As well as private sessions I also run public programs and professional training.

Product Review: ASEA REDOX

Redox signaling molecules produced by your body enable cell communications to protect, rejuvenate, and keep your body functioning at optimal levels. But these molecules naturally decline over time, and cell communications break down, allowing aging, illness and disease to set in. ASEA REDOX is the only supplement formulated with patented redox signalling molecules that are known for their importance as cellular messengers to keep you healthy. ASEA REDOX is 100% safe, contains ingredients that are naturally occurring in the body, and is an important supplement for better energy levels and optimal health and wellness overall.

Be Mindful not Mind-Full

Thanks to the web and social media, today we’re exposed to more information than most grandparents who haven’t been online, were exposed to in a lifetime. It’s no wonder we get overwhelmed sometimes. The best way to manage a full mind, is to practice mindfulness. Being mindful allows our brains to process information, be present, and enjoy the moment. Here are three tips. One: take five minutes before getting out of the car before or after work to just BE. Two: practice the 5/5 rule by noticing five things about each of your senses once a day. Three: Stop multi-tasking at least once a day.

Need a Medical Alarm?

A personal medical alarm is highly recommended for most seniors and is essential for people who suffer from a list of many common medical conditions and disabilities. People with these conditions are at risk of falls or the sudden onset of acute symptoms or deterioration in their existing condition. The statistics when it comes to falls can be surprising, as most people aren’t aware that 1 in 3 people over 65 years of age have a substantial fall in any given year. Alarms are also recommended by nurses in many circumstances for seniors who have been recently discharged from hospital.

Learning From Our Mistakes

A mistake is only a mistake until the lesson is learned. Life is a classroom for the soul to grow and our hearts to expand. Our relationships are the playground where our patterns show up as we learn how to communicate our desires and needs, find our voices, practice having a back bone and standing up for what feels true. Sometimes we get caught in old patterns that go on repeat and need to discover what belief system feelings and energy inside keeps us stuck. Once the lesson is learned, then all guilt, judgment, shame, disappointment and hurt is important to release.

How Opposites Attract

When a friend drops by unexpectedly, we invite them in and make them comfortable. Similarly, when a feeling of happiness overcomes us, we welcome it and hope it stays for a while. When a feeling of sadness overcomes us, we wish it gone, like it was a burn, or a bee sting. The salve that can possibly give us relief is a song that mimics the feeling. As the song echoes the sad feeling back to us, it’s like a friend telling us ‘I hear you’. It comforts and soothes us. In a little while, we want music that is quite the opposite. And so, opposites do attract, and balance is restored.

What is Cognitive Behavioural Therapy?

Cognitive Behavioural therapy (CBT) is a practical, short-term form of psychotherapy. CBT focuses on challenging and changing unhelpful cognitive distortions and behaviors, improving emotional regulation, and the development of personal coping strategies that target current problems. CBT is “problem focused” (undertaken for specific problems) and “action-oriented” (therapist tries to assist the client in selecting specific strategies to help address those problems). This type of therapy has been demonstrated to be effective for a range of problems including depression, anxiety disorders, alcohol and drug use problems, marital problems, eating disorders and severe mental illness.
