Practice Philosophy
The goal at the White Rock Orthopaedic Surgery Centre (WROSC) is to implement time honoured medical principles, both practical and ethical, to facilitate enhanced delivery of orthopaedic surgical care, in a community based setting.
While emphasizing empathy and compassion in all nonoperative aspects of care, our medical practice is also carefully focused to deliver excellence in all other areas:
Dr. Smit's practice specializes in unicompartmental knee surgery, which he has been perfroming at WROSC since November 2014, and more notably involving Oxford knee replacements for medial compartment osteoarthritis. As well as, arthroscopic surgeries in the hip, knee and shoulder, and minimally invasive techniques including partial knee replacements. On occasion, an interpositional Orthoglide arthroplasty can be performed, usually for lateral compartment osteoarthritis.
Dr. Arno Smit obtained his medical degree in 1994 from the University of Manitoba. He became a specialist in orthopedic surgery in 1999, after a five year orthopedic training program at the University of Manitoba. Since September of 1999, Dr. Smit has been practicing general orthopedic surgery in White Rock, B.C.
Dr. Smit is a member of the British Columbia Medical Association, Canadian Medical Association, Canadian Orthopedic Association, British Columbia Orthopedic Association, American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons, Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, and Society of Specialist Physicians and Surgeons of B.C.
He has received numerous awards within the orthopedic field such as, the Frederick Robert Tucker Award for “Orthopedic Excellence” from the Manitoba Orthopedic Society and the Elmer S. James Award from the University of Manitoba for two consecutive years.
As an experienced physician with advanced experience and knowledge in orthopedics, he takes a highly personal approach in caring for his patients by providing the uttermost precision and detail.
