Shingles is a viral infection caused by reactivation of the varicella zoster virus, which is the same virus that causes chickenpox. Symptoms of shingles include paint, itching or tingling on one side of the body about 1 to 5 days before a blistering rash develops. The only way to prevent Shingles is through vaccination. Healthy adults 50 years and older should get the vaccine, even if they are unsure if they had chickenpox in the past. Chat with your Central Alberta Co-op Pharmacist about the vaccine today!
