Summer’s Here—Let’s Go!

The Comox Valley is buzzing with summer fun—from the Filberg Festival and Nautical Days on August 1–3 in Comox to the vibrant Pride Parade in Courtenay on August 24. It’s the perfect time to get out, connect, and soak up the sunshine.
But for many seniors, getting to community events can be difficult. Transportation options for seniors have been shrinking across B.C., especially for non-essential trips. While rides to the doctor might be covered, catching a lift to a concert or fair can be more difficult.
BC Transit offers a few cost-efficient options. If you need a little extra support there is handyDART, an accessible, door-to-door shared transit service for people with permanent or temporary disabilities that prevent them from being able to use the standard transit. Once you register, handyDART service will pick you up and drop you off at your destination.https://www.bctransit.com/comox-valley/riderinfo/handydart/register/
There is also special rate annual bus passes available for low-income seniors and persons with disabilities, providing unlimited access on any scheduled BC Transit bus. To find out more information on eligibility and cost, call toll-free 1- 866-866-0800 or contact by email, [email protected]
If you have never used the BC Transit before and would like to learn how safely and easily, the Town of Comox has Transit Ambassadors who can assist seniors in learning to use the system. Interested? For more info call the Comox Town office at 250-334-6000.
