Use of Contact Lenses During Covid-19

Although there is no scientific evidence that contact lens wear is problematic during this pandemic, the research literature is clear that to prevent contact lens infections due to bacteria, viral and fungal diseases, contact lens wearers must remember the following: 1) Wash hands thoroughly for 20 seconds with soap and warm water and dry completely. 2) Don’t use expired solutions and don’t top up or reuse solutions. 3) Replace cases at least monthly and keep them clean and dry daily. 4) Use daily disposable contact lenses if possible. 5) Don’t wear contact lenses when you are ill. 6) Don’t sleep with contact lenses on.

Practice Makes Perfect

When adjusting to new dentures you may notice minor differences in your speech. Lisping or whistling is not unusual. It may take a week or two to adjust, but natural speech will return with practice. Speaking in front of a mirror and reading aloud are excellent exercises to speed up progress. Swallowing before speaking will help to secure the denture in place. Staying hydrated is important as you may experience a dry mouth, which can inhibit proper suction and your denture may drop when speaking. If the problem is chronic, your denturist may be able to make other recommendations.

Music for Mood

Many of us have experienced how music lifts us up when we are feeling down. What sort of music gives us this lifting-up effect? Mozart may work for one person, Alice Cooper for another, and Broadway for yet another. There is no accounting for taste, right? An alternative notion is that we match low feelings with music that evokes those feelings, e.g., melancholic music. It would be as if someone who really cared about us keenly listened to our story. We’d melt into their embrace, feeling safe to let the feelings out. Suddenly unburdened, we feel lighter.

Acceptance & Adaptability

The Yoga tradition supports us in life by teaching us how to stop fighting with circumstance and to become adaptable. The many and varied practices of Yoga not only support us through difficult times but also offer a practical way to infuse our lives with greater ease, clarity and presence. Numerous practices of Yoga teach us to hone our inner life as well as our relationships with others and with the world at large. Such practices teach us how to cling less, resist less, observe our fears in order to be less reactive and to not buy into our ego-driven thoughts. They also encourage us to live with greater acceptance, compassion and gratitude, no matter the external circumstance.
