The Pelvic Floor & Urinary Incontinence

Urinary incontinence is defined as the involuntary leakage of urine. This might be a result of weak pelvic floor muscles, which play an important role in supporting pelvic organs and controlling continence. There are three types of urinary incontinence: 1. Stress incontinence is when there is exerted pressure on the bladder causing leakage. This can be caused by coughing, laughing, sneezing, or exercising. 2. Urge is the sudden, intense urge to urinate frequently. 3. Mixed incontinence is a combination of both. There are non-invasive treatments available for urinary incontinence, such as High-Intensity Focused Electromagnetic® technology, that lift the pelvic floor.

How to Talk to Your Kids About the Coronavirus

DO: – Tell the truth about how you feel. It will make it safe for your child to do the same. – Remember that every child has a unique perception about what they hear and believe about COVID-19. – Listen with your heart, not your head. Allow kids to share their emotions without judgment or criticism. DON’T: – Don’t say “Don’t feel sad.” Sadness is a healthy and normal reaction to the possibility of someone they know getting sick. – Don’t make promises that you cannot keep. Instead of saying “Everything’s going to be okay,” say, “We’ll do everything we can to be safe.”

Fear of Falls Causes Unsafe Behavior

When someone is fearful of falling, they start to avoid everyday activities by staying at home and doing less. This lack of activity leads to loss of strength, reduced muscle tone, and loss of coordination and balance. This physical deterioration increases the risk of falling and if a fall does occur, it further heightens the fear. Turn your fear of falling into positive actions; remain active, exercise regularly, use assistive devices such as walkers or grab bars and wear sensible shoes. Consider joining a group session designed especially to teach balance exercises for fall prevention.

Reach Your Potential and Invest in Self Care

When you are on an airplane, the flight attendant always tells you to put on your mask before helping anyone else. Why? Because you are no good to anyone else if you aren’t well. The same goes for everyday life. If you want to reach your potential, invest in self-care. Here are two tips. 1) Schedule YOU time in your calendar as if it were an important meeting. Start with once a week and eventually, try for once a day. 2) Use that YOU time to do anything that helps YOU be well. Take a bath, read a book, watch a show, go for a walk, or, practice mindfulness.
