Staying Healthy After Menopause

Two major health conditions that can affect women after menopause are osteoporosis and heart disease. To protect yourself against osteoporosis, take 1,200 mg of calcium per day, along with 800 to 2,000 IU of vitamin D daily if you are over 50 years old (be sure to talk to your doctor). Stay active, specifically with weight-bearing exercises, stop smoking, avoid caffeine, and eat a well-balanced diet. Smoking cessation, healthy eating, and exercise can all help to protect you against heart disease as well. Monitoring your blood pressure, reducing stress, and watching your weight are also important.

Defense vs. Offence with Denture Care

Hockey season is a good time to talk about dental injuries, which can sideline children and adults alike. Some simple protection can help you avoid the need for dental prosthetics. Athletic mouth guards work by simultaneously cushioning the face and bite while spreading and dissipating impact. They can stabilize your jaw, absorb impact, and limit head movement during a direct hit, significantly reducing the chance of permanent damage. Custom mouth guards, professionally made by a denturist or dentist, will fit the contours of any smile and are exceptionally comfortable and stable, allowing players to focus on the game.

Dentures for Comfort

Uncomfortable dentures are a thing of the past. Their lightweight, comfortable counterparts are practically invisible, and completely eliminate the unsightly metal clasps. In fact, flexible partial dentures are fabricated without the use of a metal frame – made instead from a strong, durable plastic that snaps securely and comfortably into place around existing natural teeth and gums. The plastic used is so strong that the partial made from it can be very thin, eliminating that heavy, bulky feeling that makes wearing partials so unpleasant. Flexible partial dentures are a quality, premium product that offer the benefits of superior esthetics, comfort, function, and bio-compatibility.

Another benefit of being socially engaged and participating in activities is that you can make new friends with similar interests and pick up new interests along the way. Moving into Independent Living Accommodations might be just the ticket for creating a balanced lifestyle. You can feel good and enjoy your stay in a place that offers all kinds of possibilities.

Integrative Microscopy

Integrative Microscopy differs from conventional medicine in that it strives to identify and treat underlying causes and nutritional deficiencies of health issues, rather than the symptoms. It’s used for non-diagnostic information-gathering purposes, along with standard physical exams, health history intake, and other standard-of-care imaging or blood tests. Integrative Microscopy is non-invasive and family-friendly, and requires only a couple of drops of blood extracted from the fingertip. A licensed healthcare practitioner educates the patient about the physiology of their blood immediately via a digital video link from the microscope to a computer screen, providing instant results and one-on-one patient-practitioner interaction.

Ask The Expert

Q. What do I need to remember when travelling with hearing aids? A. Bring your charging station/cables. If you have rechargeable hearing aids, don’t forget your charging station! If they aren’t rechargeable – bring extra batteries! Don’t forget extra domes and wax guards. Being prepared with extras will ensure you can fix problems as they arise. Wipe, dry, repeat. Remember to clean your hearing aids every day while traveling. Sweat, moisture and wax buildup can keep your hearing aids from performing like they should. Get a check up. If you’re going on a long vacation, consider taking your hearing aids in for a quick tune-up and good ole fashion cleaning.

Laser Acupuncture for Smoking Cessation

The addictive qualities of cigarettes make smoking a tough habit to break, but there are safe and alternative measures you can take to remove this addiction from your life. Laser acupuncture is a non-invasive option that focuses on the three aspects of addiction: physical, using laser/electronic stimulation of acupressure points on your upper body; psychological, providing materials, tips, and one-on-one coaching; and detoxification, helping to eliminate cigarette toxins from your body.

The Mouth/Body Health Connection

Did you know that you cannot have good general health if you have poor oral health? Gum disease (periodontitis) is an infection of the gums that can have major impacts on your oral and overall health. The bacteria in your mouth can make its way into the bloodstream and begin to cause problems elsewhere in the body. Gum disease has been linked to lung disease, cardiovascular disease, and even to Alzheimer’s. Be sure to have regular checkups and brush your teeth and gums every day for a healthier mouth and body.
