Holidays with Dementia

Many older adults with Alzheimer’s or dementia enjoy and want to be included in holiday festivities. However, the added activities could cause increased agitation and confusion, unpredictable behavior, or mood swings. To create a stress-free, happy holiday season, try to scale things back and modify activities so they’ll feel calm and safe. Focus on a few of the most meaningful traditions. Ask which activities they value most. That could mean trimming the Christmas tree, lighting the menorah, singing songs, or baking special holiday treats. Even if your older adult might not remember these holiday activities later, the warm feelings they’ll have is a different kind of memory their body will carry for a while.

Smack the Jack

The fundraiser known as “Smack the Jack” has been successful to date. This fundraiser mirrors “Chase the Ace” except that we are using the Jack of Spades in lieu of an Ace card. Our recent jackpot winner took home $9,580. Ticket sales are available for purchase at our office and at various local locations in Brandon throughout the week. Cost for tickets is one ticket for $5, three tickets for $10 and eight tickets for $20. Lottery license LGCA-4474-RF-38295. Emergency Lock Box

Have you ever asked yourself, how could I be rescued if my door was locked? Time is of the essence during a fire or medical emergency. Install a Lock Box – a small weather-resistant metal box that securely holds a set of keys. Should an emergency occur while you are unable to open the door or get out of the residence, Brandon Fire & Emergency Services (BFES) can access your property without having to break-in. You do not want an accidental fall or medical emergency to jeopardize your ability to live independently at home. You are always connected to our 24/7 Response Centre. Celebrations Dinner Theatre Winnipeg

We have started our bus trip outings from Brandon to Winnipeg to participate in the Celebrations Dinner Theatre. Join us on the bus to attend the upcoming matinee lunch & show on March 7, 2023. A healthy meal program offered by Brandon Seniors for Seniors Co-op Inc. For only $12.00 you will receive a complete home-cooked meal. Order as many meals as you wish on Friday, we have seven different meals, and they will be delivered free to you on the next Friday by our friendly volunteers.
