Restless Leg Syndrome
Have you ever been told that you kick a lot during the night? Or perhaps your spouse does. This could be due to Restless Leg Syndrome (RLS). The nerve receptors in the bottom of your feet are hyper-sensitive, and this disorder is part of the nervous system that causes involuntary movement of the legs. RLS usually interferes with sleep and is also considered a sleep disorder. People with chronic diseases like Parkinson’s, diabetes, and peripheral neuropathy often experience RLS. Sleep is important, even more rest is important. So wear at least one Voxxlife sock to bed to calm the nerve receptors.

One Change at a Time
Fitness is a life long journey. It can’t be earned in one workout, gained by eating well for one week, or through one eight hour sleep. The long-term benefits only come to those who stick with the plan, adapt as life changes, and most importantly enjoy the ride. We call this building healthy habits. Imagine if you ate one apple a day and did 20-30 minutes of varied physical activity 3 days per week. Early Osteoporosis Prevention
November is Osteoporosis Awareness Month, a condition that affects 1 in 3 women and 1 in 5 men in Canada. Osteoporotic hip fractures are more common and take up more hospital beds than stroke, heart attack, and diabetes. According to Osteoporosis Canada, after a hip fracture, 27% of people go into rehab care and 17% go to long-term care facilities. We begin to lose bone in our mid-thirties, so build it up in your twenties with weight-bearing exercise, balance support (yoga or Tai Qi), adequate calcium and minerals from diet, vitamin D supplements, and avoiding junk food/pop intake.
Clean Eating Recipe
Roasted Squash Dip. Ingredients: 1 ½ cups roasted or mashed leftover squash. 2 tbsp light cream cheese. 1/2 tsp Roasted Garlic Seasoning Paste. 1/8 tsp cayenne pepper. 1 tbsp lemon juice. 1/8 tsp salt. 2 tsp finely chopped chives. 1 tsp olive oil. 2 tbsp slivered almonds, toasted. Directions: In a blender or food processor, purée squash, cream cheese, garlic paste, cayenne, lemon juice and salt on medium-high until smooth, scraping down sides as needed. For only $10.00 you will receive a complete home-cooked meal. Order as many meals as you wish on Friday, we have a variety of seven different meals, and they will be delivered free to you on the next Friday by our friendly volunteers.
