Ask Your Pharmacist

What is Medication Non-Adherence? Medication non-adherence is when a patient doesn’t take a medication, either willfully or inadvertently, as prescribed by their healthcare provider. Studies have shown that 50% of Canadians do not take their prescription medications exactly as prescribed. The reasons for this vary from a lack of information, to being afraid to take medication or believing it doesn’t work, to an inability to follow instructions that may be too complex. Each year, medication non-adherence results in many hospital admissions. Your pharmacist can help provide you with the information you need to make the right decisions about when and how to take your medications.

How Long do Dentures Last?

Unfortunately, dentures don’t last forever. Even the highest quality, most durable dentures will eventually need to be replaced. Full dentures last anywhere between 5 and 10 years, while partials have a maximum longevity of 15 years. During this time frame, both your mouth and your dentures can undergo major changes, resulting in an improper fit and unappealing appearance. However, that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t care for them. If you look after your full and partial dentures properly, they can last for a long time! Be sure to clean them daily, soak them every night, and see your denturist regularly.

The Power of Plants

There’s been ongoing research that suggests that indoor plants not only purify the air, but have calming effects on your mental and physical health. Living in spaces abundant with plants can improve mood, reduce the negative effects of stress, encourage physical activity and other positive behaviors, improve cognition, reduce aggression, and enhance overall well-being. Here are a few plant ideas that add a splash of colour and good cheer to your home: Lavender – known for its relaxation-promoting properties. Peace Lillies – improves the flow of energy in your home and promotes well-being. Aloe Vera – known for its anti-inflammatory and air purifying properties, which could reduce anxiety and stress.

Clean Ducts for Clean Air

When cleaning your home, don’t forget about your ductwork. Just because you don’t see inside your ducts doesn’t mean you don’t breathe what comes out of them. Each time your heating or air conditioning system comes on, debris in your ducts become airborne, resulting in poor indoor air quality. What are the benefits of duct cleaning?
Having your ducts cleaned helps:
• Improve the air quality in your home.
• Ensure your furnace and air conditioner operate at maximum efficiency. Dirty ventilation systems can lead to clogged air conditioner coils and furnace filters, as well as contaminated blower wheels that could result in a breakdown.
