Talking About Hearing Loss

Do you find that you are repeating yourself to a loved one more often than you used to? When someone experiences hearing loss, they are often in denial at first. It can be frustrating for people close to them, but it is important to be empathetic. Hearing loss is more than just a loss of hearing, often people experiencing hearing loss fear it is a loss of vitality or a sign of declining health. Engage with them, ask about what they fear and why, let them talk it out and most importantly, educate yourself about the options.

Finding Your Strength When Life Gets Tough

No matter how healthy we live, how much kindness, generosity or fairness we practice or how positive we are, life can become too overwhelming and push us to our edges juggling way too many balls that seem humanly possible. Often our first impulse is to speed up, work harder, become relentless with activity accessing our survival warrior instinct to recreate stability. Important yes, but staying in this mode for too long burns out our adrenal system. Equally needed is to go into the river of quiet stillness, slow down the inner pace, sitting through our feelings of discomfort, access our inner warrior for guidance, releasing our burden to a higher source and listening for strength and clarity on how to best navigate a pathway through the outer demands to make space for a new way of being.

Coping with Senior Isolation

One of the biggest issues for seniors is that their social circles begin to shrink as the years go by. Friends, significant others and family members move or pass away. Even those who still live close may be inaccessible due to limited mobility, especially once a senior can no longer drive safely. Age-related changes in one’s physical condition, such as hearing loss, can make it so difficult to communicate that it doesn’t seem worth the effort anymore. Local senior centers or agencies are great resources providing home-visitation services as well as community transportation and outings. Do you have a loved one who may be lonely? Try to put in more effort to spend time with them.

Physiotherapy to Prevent Falls

As we get older, our health and physical status changes and can put us at risk for falling. Falls are the leading cause of injury in older adults. Physiotherapists can assist with preventing falls in a variety of ways: 1) preparing a safe, at-home exercise program tailored to your needs; 2) answering any questions about gait aides (canes, walkers, crutches) to help with balance; and 3) helping you pick, fit, and use the right gait aide for your needs. If a fear of falling has kept you from being active, a physiotherapist can help get you back on your feet!

Your Health is Your Wealth!

For those who don’t believe there’s any value in investing in your health, it’s time to think again. With health, you’re either going to pay for it now, or you’re going to pay for it later. If you do it now, it’s called PREVENTION, and it’s cheaper. If you do it later, it’s called a CURE, and a lot of times more expensive (and often too late). The Kyani “Triangle of Health” is all you need to give you ALL the needed supplements your body requires to defend, repair and maintain an optimum level of health. Invest in your health today, you ARE worth it!

Get Energized!

Boost your pre or post-workout by incorporating chlorophyll-rich greens with coconut MCT into your daily routine. Studies have shown when taken before exercising, coconut MCT may reduce lactic acid buildup and encourage the body to burn more fat instead of carbs for energy. This can be found in a greens powder formula at your health food store and added to smoothies or water. Taking it in the morning can also make you feel more energized throughout the day. Look for a greens product with coconut MCT and maca for sustained energy, plus shelf-stable probiotics included to lighten your supplement load!

Avoid Injury This Spring

Spring means two things: yard work and stiff, sore muscles. Stretching to prepare muscles for strenuous activities that haven’t been done since fall is very important. Simple things like doing arm circles, shrugging your shoulders, and touching your toes should be done before and after activity. If you do overexert and your neck, shoulder, arm, or back pain is not going away within a week, there are natural alternatives that can help. Options such as NIR therapy and designed nutritional formulations will reduce inflammation and stimulate muscle repair to help you recover quickly and get back to enjoying spring.

Natural Product Review: EMP Advanced

I recently discovered Truehope EMP Advanced and found this product works well to normalize brain function around mood and sleep issues. Although it’s not necessarily the complete answer for everyone, my wife and I both notice the difference. Many people are not functioning near their optimal levels due to sub-optimal nutrient levels in their diets. Dopamine is a neurotransmitter that controls the brain’s reward centers and a deficiency can result in addictive behavior and low brain energy in general (hard to get motivated to get out of bed in the morning), and at it’s severest, Parkinson’s Disease. Truehope EMP Advanced appears to help modulate dopamine levels in the brain.

Helping Seniors Recover after a Heart Attack

With advancements in medicine, more people are surviving heart attacks, and that’s great news. However, about a quarter of seniors feel depressed, afraid, and angry after going through a heart attack, and they need their loved ones. You can help by visiting often (keeping visits short at first) and being encouraging regarding lifestyle and diet changes. Making the same changes to your own lifestyle and diet is a great way to be encouraging and benefit your own health, while helping to ensure that the person who experienced the heart attack doesn’t feel resentful.
