Mindfulness Improves Wellbeing

With our days already busy with work and our loved ones, the pandemic continues to cause many of us extra stress and anxiousness. To combat anxiety or burnout, engage in the practice of mindfulness to improve your mental wellbeing. Mindfulness is the practice of taking time to stop, think and focus on the present moment. This means being aware of your state of mind and thoughts, what feelings or sensations you are experiencing, the environment, and your breathing. Allowing yourself the time to be in the present helps you to calm down, frees your body of tension, and relieves your mind of distressing thoughts.

Avoiding Cheilitis from Dentures Editorial

People who wear dentures can sometimes experience an infection of the mouth called cheilitis, which can cause painful inflammation and cracks at the corners of the mouth. This is often due to an overgrowth of yeast from dentures that fit improperly. Yeast is always present in our mouths, but certain issues can cause it to accumulate and cause infections like cheilitis. It’s important to visit your denturist regularly (at least once a year) so they can make any necessary adjustments to refit your dentures. Be sure to clean your dentures daily and chew on both sides to maintain proper fit.

While remaining at home is possible for some seniors, many others may need to move to Independent Living with Services to get the best care possible. To help make the transition to assisted living as smooth as possible, it’s important to: 1) avoid rushing the process; 2) focus on their well-being; 3) make their new home look familiar with personal belongings; 4) help them get involved in their new community; and 5) ensure they have frequent visitors.

Ask The Expert

Q: I have glaucoma and dry eyes. My eye doctor says I should do warm compresses for my dryness, but won’t this raise my eye pressure?
A: You don’t have to worry. Problems with eye pressure come from within the eye, not from occasionally pressing a heating pad on the eyelids. Warm compresses usually work very well for dry eyes, but don’t affect the state of glaucoma one way or the other.
