Business Spotlight: Heavenly Care Agency Inc.

Celma Pinto, CEO and president of Heavenly Care Agency, wants Manitobans to know they have more options for elder care than they think. Heavenly Care Agency provides free consultation to families who want to learn more about the Self and Family Managed Care Program. The program allows individuals and families to manage their own home care resources and allocate money to private care if they choose. This allows for much greater flexibility to schedule home care visits according to individual needs, rather than working around the tight schedule of government care workers. It’s important to note that with the COVID-19 outbreak, Heavenly Care staff are taking the upmost safety precautions while providing care.

Vision Problems or ADD/ADHD?

Eye coordination and eye movement disorders have very similar symptoms to ADD/ADHD. When you have a child who has difficulty concentrating while you are trying your best to home-school, especially with reading or writing assignments, it is vital that you rule out the possibility that a vision problem may be contributing to your child’s difficulties, before you assume that it’s ADD/ADHD. Not all eye doctors test for vision problems that interfere with reading, learning, and paying attention. Do some research on our website, contact us and we will follow-up to schedule an appointment.

The Beauty of Aloe

The best beauty tools often come from nature! Using aloe vera as a skin care treatment has many benefits. It’s long been used to help relieve and heal sunburn by acting as a protective layer and replenishing moisture. Its antioxidant and nutritional properties are excellent for healing purposes. These attributes also make it a great everyday moisturizer, especially for those with oily skin. Men can use aloe vera after shaving to treat small cuts and soothe facial skin. Aloe vera’s ability to reduce inflammation is also useful to treat acne and signs of aging, as well as stretch marks.

Words to Live By

“There is no failure except in no longer trying. There is no defeat except from within, no insurmountable barrier except our own inherent weakness of purpose.” -Elbert Hubbard

Fear of Falls Causes Unsafe Behavior

When someone is fearful of falling, they start to avoid everyday activities by staying at home and doing less. This lack of activity leads to loss of strength, reduced muscle tone, and loss of coordination and balance. This physical deterioration increases the risk of falling and if a fall does occur, it further heightens the fear. Turn your fear of falling into positive actions; remain active, exercise regularly, use assistive devices such as walkers or grab bars and wear sensible shoes. Consider joining a group session designed especially to teach balance exercises for fall prevention.

When to Call a Nurse Practitioner

Nurse Practitioners (NP) are growing in number in Manitoba. With our wide scope of practice, we function much like your family doctor or urgent care doctor. Most people don’t know what we do let alone when to call us. Nurse Practitioners can assess, diagnose, treat, prescribe order tests and perform minor surgeries. For example, an elderly person who can’t get out of their home and may be suffering a chest infection or leg wound should give us a call. We can treat wounds, infections, abscesses, coughs and colds and sprains, amongst other ailments. So, if you’re finding it hard to get to a doctor or an urgent care call a Nurse Practitioner.

If you have been hurt at work or in a car accident you may be entitled to a full course of physiotherapy, at no cost to you. After an accident, a physiotherapist is well suited to assess and treat your injury, regardless of what part of your body is in pain.
