Because dentures have been around for such a long time, they have had centuries to generate stories and myths. These fables and warning stories are sometimes used to scare children into taking better care of their teeth. While some concerns may have been valid in the past, they don’t hold anymore. The quality of modern dentures is continuously improving. After an adjustment period, you can enjoy the benefits of white, straight, and attractive teeth. Also, you can eat, drink, and speak normally, without embarrassment. Dentures are lighter, more natural-looking, and much easier to manage than ever before, giving you confidence and a beautiful smile!
Digital Eye Strain
With an increased screen-time, digital eye strain has affected many of us during the lockdown. Viewing a digital screen often makes the eyes work harder. As a result, the unique characteristics and high visual demands of computer and digital screen viewing make many individuals susceptible to the development of vision-related symptoms such as irritation, redness, dryness, and dark circles. Try the 20-20-20 technique during your screen time to reduce digital eye strain. In every 20 minutes, look at an object at least 20 feet away for just 20 seconds. This will break your screen time in parts and reduce continuous strain on your eyes.
Quit Smoking with Laser Therapy
Is quitting smoking on your ‘To-Do List’ year after year? Have you tried just about everything, with little success? Laser Therapy is clinically proven to help to control cravings and withdrawal symptoms, with a 95-98% success rate! In clinical studies, patients report a noticeable reduction in cravings, and have a higher chance of success in quitting. The benefits of quitting smoking with laser over other interventions include no medications with unpleasant side effects, no unhealthy nicotine in your system in the form of patches, and pleasant side effects of relaxation which are a result of the endorphins released in response to the laser.
Read Your LABELS!
There are so many chemicals in our everyday products that are harmful to our health and bodies. Here are a few ingredients to watch for. FRAGRANCE/PARFUM found in scented candles, perfumes, lotions and more. FORMALDEHYDE is found in shampoo & conditioner (including baby and pet varieties), body wash, sunblock, cosmetics, baby wipes, toothpaste and more. It is also present in our wood, sheetrock, and furniture. It is a known carcinogen and recognized as such by the Cancer Institute. Long term exposure or toxicity to these ingredients can lead to an increased risk of cancer. By becoming aware, we can safeguard ourselves and those we love.
Dentures and TMJ Disorders
TMJ Disorders, or Temporomandibular Joint Disorders, can sometimes be caused by a misaligned bite. When your dentures no longer fit properly because of ridge resorption and worn down tooth anatomy, this can lead to an incorrect bite, which in turn can cause TMJ pain. Symptoms like headaches, popping in the jaw, difficulty moving the jaw, pain in the jaw, neck pain, dizziness, pain in the ears, ringing in your ears, or even hearing loss could occur. If you experience these symptoms, talk with your denturist to see how they can help with this issue. Make sure to get your dentures checked regularly to prevent further problems.
Ask Dr Tyler Anderson OD
Q: Is it worth wearing sunglasses if my lens implants (from cataract surgery) have UV protection built in?
A: In short, yes. The protection from ultraviolet light in lens implants is meant to protect the interior of the eye (mainly the retina) from sun damage. However, these implants cannot protect the more exterior parts of the eye, like the cornea, the conjunctiva, and the skin on the eyelids. Many types of prescription lenses for glasses already have some UV or blue light protection, even if they are not sunglasses. This may be worth checking during your next eye exam.
