Optometrists recommend that babies have their first eye examination between six and nine months of age to ensure their eyes are healthy, eye alignment and eye muscle movements are developing properly, and the eyes are focusing together. A number of serious eye conditions exist that can be identified during their first eye exam. If left uncorrected, these conditions can result in serious vision problems. Vision development continues into the preschool years – depth perception, eye-hand coordination, and visualization skills. Doctors of Optometry recommend children have at least one eye exam between the ages of two and five, and yearly after starting school.
How’s Your Sleep Posture?
You spend nearly 1/3 of our lifetime sleeping, making your sleep posture extremely important to your daily wellbeing. Ideally, your head should remain in a neutral position. When side sleeping, pay attention to if the pillow is too thick or thin for you. Check if the neck becomes side flexed when laying on your side. Ideally the spine should be in neutral or straight. “Head forward posture” which is a jutting forward of the chin, is becoming more prominent with increased cell phone usage. Add to that a back sleeper with more than one pillow, the neck muscles are in a constant state of contraction trying to return to their normal length. Being pro-active could save you from a real “pain in the neck” later.
Bioenergetics & Women’s Health
Every year at this time women are reminded to focus on their health, but in reality, women should be taking charge of their own physical and mental well-being every day. A good first step is to find out how well your body is functioning so you can target any areas that need assistance. One of the best ways to accomplish this is through Bioenergetics. This non-invasive computerized analysis determines underlying imbalances in organs and tissues that could contribute to unwanted health conditions. If an imbalance is found Bioenergetics can then help to stimulate correction of the affected organ or tissues to help your body function at its best.

Lost Childhood Magic
As adults, it’s easy to forget our childhood dreams. Do you remember the Tooth Fairy, Santa Claus, or the Easter Bunny? These figures helped children navigate life’s challenges. Magic is believing before seeing, and faith requires no evidence. While adults might view them as imaginary, as children, they felt real and magical, making our dreams seem possible. Studies show that from conception to age seven is the most influential period in our lives. As children, we had faith in these figures because it was easier than facing the harsh realities of life.

The Power of Gratitude in Healthy Aging
Gratitude is a powerful tool with transformative effects on mental health and overall well-being, especially for seniors. In later years, aging can be a time of fulfillment and joy, and practicing gratitude may be key to unlocking these enriching experiences. Beyond boosting emotional well-being, gratitude also supports physical health by improving sleep quality and reducing stress and depression. Taking a moment each day to appreciate even the smallest joys can lower the risk of heart attack, angina, and stroke, help manage arthritic pain, and reduce frailty in older adults

ALERT! Did You Know?
The National Advisory Group has published new guidelines, on the number of drinks consumed each week, and the risk of health issues. The International Agency for Research for decades have classified Alcohol as a #1 preventable Carcinogenic to humans, behind Tobacco and Asbestos– especially for women! Alcohol use in Canada causes nearly $7,000 cases of cancer deaths each year in Canada.
The Canadian Centre on Substance Abuse (CCSA) who advises the Canadian government on alcohol consumption, has drastically reduced what is considered low-risk drinking, Previous guidelines indicated 10 drinks a week for women and 15 for men. The new proposed guidelines indicate that more than 6 drinks per week leads to increased risk of a host of health issues. The new proposed guidelines suggest that the health risks become “increasingly high” when someone has six or more drinks per week. Women who have 3 or more drinks per week, increase their risk of heart, liver and breast cancer.
Alcohol consumption, by women is consistently associated with the risk of breast cancer. Although the liver is the primary site were acetaldehyde and free radicals are produced in the process of alcohol metabolism, normal human breast tissue has the capacity to metabolize alcohol at low concentrations and alcohol dehydrogenase is expressed in human breast epithelial cells. Research has shown that acetaldehyde accumulates in mammary tissue for prolonged periods of time after a single oral dose of ethanol and finally reaches a level considerably higher than in the blood. Drinking even small amounts of alcohol is linked with an increased risk of breast cancer in women.
BREAST CANCER ALERT: If you have a family history of breast cancer or – If you have had breast cancer, there is an elevated risk that your cancer will return. There is consensus that no amount of alcohol is safe given the vulnerability of women’s bodies to the intake of alcohol.
