Gramma’s Home Remedy

Herbs can treat headaches! When you need to get that headache under control, here are some spices in your kitchen that can help. Lemon Balm can soothe tension and anxiety-type headaches. Allspice relaxes your nerves and helps calm your whole body. Allspice has a numbing effect on the nerves and gives relief from pains such as headaches and sinus problems. Rosemary improves circulation, and when blood rushes to your feet it will improve your headache. And lastly, Chamomile is a wonderful remedy for stress, nerves, and anxiety. This one is also safe for children! It has an anti-inflammatory effect on the body, helping with certain types of headaches.

Spring is the Season of Love
Spring

When the weather warms up, so does our heart. Why is that? Science of course. Spring is a season of cliches — birds singing, bees buzzing and people falling madly in love. All this love can be blamed on one very real thing – dopamine! Every April your brain unintentionally becomes a dopamine factory, turning you into a love junkie. Dopamine is a naturally occurring chemical your brain uses to make you want things. There are other systems involved in love, but when it comes to new love, dopamine is the main culprit. And with enough of it swirling around your system, you’re prone to fall in love — and fall hard.

Spring is Coming!

For those of us who tend to hibernate during the cold winter months, Spring is the time that we wake up and feel ready to attempt all those upkeep jobs that we put off in the fall. Cleaning up the yard, repairing that broken fence post, cleaning out the rain gutters. However, before starting any strenuous activity, particularly after months of relative inactivity, a good warm up is key. Before trying to pull out that fence post, make sure to walk for a few minutes first to warm up your muscles. Follow this up with some light stretches to ensure that you are loose and ready to work. This will help to reduce that chance of pulled muscles, or even worse injuries.

Best Way to Eat Fruits

Did you know that by simply adding more whole fruits to your diet you can rejuvenate your cells? However, fruits should be avoided after a meal because eaten on top of a full meal, fruit will lead to the excess intake of glucose as well as indigestion. If you eat fruit 30-40 minutes before a meal, it will help to prevent excess intake of carbohydrates, such as rice or bread, during the meal. Fruits are best eaten 30 minutes to 1 hour after drinking a full glass of water each morning.

Stroke is the No. 2 cause of death worldwide, which means it’s important to know the warning signs. Remember F.A.S.T. Other signs that someone is suffering from a stroke include sudden vision loss, a severe headache (caused by swelling in the brain), dizziness or imbalance, and nausea and vomiting (both of which are very common early signs of stroke). By understanding what to look for and taking the signs of stroke seriously, you could save a life!

Keep Your Joints Happy

Many of us have an old injury, or joint that tends to stiffen up with a change in weather. With an increase in barometric pressure or humidity, especially in these nasty cold spells we’ve been experiencing, our joints get cold and cranky just like the rest of us. These changes cause the “synovial fluid” in our joints to increase in viscosity, causing inflammation. A few easy ways to keep our joints happy is with extra layers of warmth. For examples: Wearing Long John’s, a knee or elbow sleeve, tensor bandage or even putting your clothes in the dryer before putting them on. Stay warm out there!
