Disability Tax Credit for Type 1 Diabetes

The Disability Tax Credit is a program designed to help those with disabilities or their caregivers reduce the amount of income tax they pay, offsetting some of the significant medical and treatment expenses. What diabetes-related activities are covered? According to CRA, the following activities qualify in the 14-hour-per-week calculation:

• Checking blood glucose levels
• Preparing and administering the insulin
• Calibrating necessary equipment
• Testing ketones
• Keeping a log book of blood glucose levels

With children, the 14-hour-per-week eligibility criteria can usually be met by combining the parent and child’s time.

T1D is an expensive disease and the disability tax credit can provide some financial relief for those who qualify.

Drink More Water In The Summer

Water intake is a very crucial part of our daily lives. As you probably already know, the human adult body is made up of 60% water. It plays an important role in allowing the human body to function properly. Taking this into consideration, as the days are getting warmer due to increasing temperatures and humidity, there is a higher possibility of losing water in the body, which results in dehydration. The water is lost as sweat, which evaporates to help cool the body. Therefore, it is crucial that an individual meet the average water intake of 11-15 glasses per day.

Why Do We Need Sunglasses?

When it comes to sunglasses, we all know that we should be wearing them. But why? There are many benefits to wearing sunglasses, including protecting our eyes from damaging radiation and ultraviolet (UV) rays. High-quality sunglasses will filter out 99 to 100 percent of UV rays (sometimes called “sunburn rays”), which can help prevent UV-related eye disorders such as macular degeneration, the leading cause of vision loss in older people, and cataracts, a major cause of blindness and visual impairment. People of all ages are at risk, including children, and certain medications can increase your risk. Protect your eyes today!

Online Dating Vs. a Matchmaker

Online dating can be exhausting, dangerous and demoralizing. Hours of searching profiles, followed by unsuccessful date after date can result in dating ‘burn out’. Furthermore, when it comes to online dating, you never know who you are really meeting. You have no idea about their actual age and relationship status, their true intentions or if they have a criminal history. Online dating can be extremely dangerous. This is why I recommend a professional matchmaker. An experienced matchmaker will introduce you to the right match, who is screened, and hand picked for you. Finding true love is important and hiring a matchmaker could be the best decision you ever make.

Exercising with Shoulder Pain

When dealing with shoulder impingement, avoid resisted shoulder exercises with a pronated grip (palms facing down), as the tendons will be pinched in this position. The weakened rotator cuff is unable to maintain adequate space between the bones in the shoulder, causing the tendons to rub, which will aggravate symptoms. Exercises should be done in pain-free range of motion with proper form. It is more important to restore movement and increase endurance by doing higher repetitions than overloading with heavy weight. Make sure to emphasize deep breathing and take a 45 to 60-second break in between sets.

How to Boost Your Metabolism

Are you looking to kick-start your metabolism? Here are a few tips! 1. Build muscle. Your body always burns calories, even when you’re doing nothing. Your resting metabolic rate is much higher if you have muscle. 2. Keep drinking water. Your body needs water to process calories. If you are even mildly dehydrated, your metabolism may slow down. 3. Power up with protein. Your body burns many more calories digesting protein than it does with carbohydrates. As part of a balanced diet, replacing some carbs with lean, protein-rich foods can boost metabolism at mealtime.

Why Can’t I Put Down My Phone?

Detaching yourself from your phone and truly unplugging can seriously improve your life. While there’s no doubt technology has made our lives easier in many ways (remember roadmaps?), research suggests that our addiction to it is real. Every new notification triggers the release of dopamine, a neurotransmitter that drives us to seek rewards, so you keep coming back for more. This vicious cycle is taking a toll on our health, mental wellbeing, and relationships. But this habit isn’t entirely your fault. Instagram, Facebook, Twitter—they’ve all been designed to make you repeatedly use them and check back in. Time for a digital detox?
