Cordless Phones – The Elephant in the Room

While most people have heard the connection to EMF exposure and cell phones, few think twice about the cordless phone sitting by your nightstand. These phones are now almost always DECT (Digital Enhanced Cordless Telecommunication) phones. Almost all DECT base stations send microwave radiation 24 X 7 and can account for a large portion of the wireless exposure in a home. Many scientists believe that this disrupts our brain’s intercellular signaling which accounts for many of the adverse health effects that people experience. For a more restful sleep, these phones should have no place in a sleeping area such as a bedroom – and better yet – think of switching these over to a hard-lined (old style corded) phone.

The Do Diet

When we think about eating better, we often think about what we must take out of our diet – usually the things we like most! What if, instead of starting with a mindset of restriction, we start with a mindset of abundance? What if we were to focus on adding foods in, rather than removing them? This is a suggestion I regularly share with my clients and a first step that many find easy to do. Here are the top 10 foods I recommend adding as part of the Do Diet: fruit, green tea, dark chocolate, omega-3 fats, nuts & seeds, mushrooms, plain Greek yogurt, avocado, olives, and sweet potato.

Eat Antioxidant-Rich Fruits

Antioxidants are compounds found in foods that can help prevent cell damage, which is also known as oxidative stress. Chronic oxidative stress has been linked to a higher risk of chronic diseases such as type 2 diabetes, cancer, and heart disease. It’s important to include antioxidant-rich fruits and other foods in your diet to help combat oxidative stress in your body. Some examples of fruits high in antioxidants include: blueberries – help with lowering blood pressure and cholesterol, delaying age-related brain conditions; strawberries – help with lowering cholesterol; raspberries – may help reduce cancer risk; and goji berries – may lower heart disease risk.

Ketones for Brain Health

March 14-20 marks Brain Awareness Week in Canada, and an important part of maintaining brain health is ensuring your brain gets the fuel it needs. In the case of brain injuries like concussion, the only gate open for the brain to get fuel is the one that allows ketones in, which are a major brain fuel source. Studies show ketones can increase blood flow up to 39%. Ketones from outside of the body will shift the brain’s reliance from glucose to ketones, improving transport and cellular metabolism. This means your brain is being fed the necessary fuel to begin recovery.

Bioresonance for Liver Health

The liver is an extremely complex organ that performs over 500 different functions in the body, including manufacturing hormones and proteins, fighting infections, and controlling blood sugar. There are over 100 forms of liver disease that have many causes, including viral infection, genetics, drugs and toxins, cancer, autoimmune disorders, and obesity. Liver disease can affect men, women, and children of any age, and can cause toxins to build up in the body, liver scarring, blood clotting issues, and even liver cancer. How healthy is your liver? It may be time to consider a liver detox!

The Power of Touch

There are approximately 5 million touch receptors in your skin and 3000 on the tip of your finger. Whenever we get touched or when we receive a massage, our body releases endorphins that are natural pain-killers. Massage not only helps us relax, but it also gives our immune system a boost! Receiving a 45-minute massage has been found to increase the number of white blood cells that help defend the body from disease. Do you suffer from sleep problems? 60 minutes of massage have the same effect on your body as 7 to 8 hours of good sleep. The antidote to a stressful day or health ailments could lie right at our fingertips.

Maintaining Oral Health Naturally

Tooth decay, gingivitis, and periodontitis are chronic conditions that can contribute to other serious health conditions like heart and cardiovascular problems. Micro-organisms can enter the bloodstream or airways and travel to other areas of the body. Along with regular dental hygiene, some natural supports include: 1) A low-sugar, high-greens diet – to keep an alkaline environment. 2) Oil pulling – use quality organic sesame or coconut oil and swish in the mouth for 20 minutes to help draw out toxins (then spit it out). 3) Probiotics – open a capsule and swish before swallowing or try a specific oral-based lozenge or spray.

Lets Talk About Self Love/Self Care!

What is Self Love/Self Care? It’s a state of appreciation for oneself that grows from actions which support our physical, psychological and spiritual growth. Self love will mean something different to just about everyone as we have different ways to take care of ourselves. It can vary from setting heathy boundaries, trusting and/or prioritizing yourself or not self judging. Self love can be intertwined with self care. This may include listening to your body, putting the phone down, moving your body or learning to become more mindful, kind, patient and gentle with yourself.
