Staying Strong and Independent

At UHC, our team is dedicated to providing the best in home care. Our nurses, PSWs, and physiotherapists assist with Activities of Daily Living and encourage our clients to engage physically, mentally, and socially. A healthy diet and daily movement help maintain physical independence. An exercise that can and should be done daily is Sit-to-Stand. Choose a chair or seat of any kind; with feet flat on the floor, lean forward slightly and push yourself up to standing. Reach back and return to a sitting position. Repeat this movement 10-15 times, 3-4 times per day! Enjoy your strong body! Universal Home Care & Associates

The Power of Massage

Massage therapy harnesses a myriad of physical and mental benefits, showcasing its profound impact on overall well-being. Beyond relaxation, massages alleviate muscle tension, reducing pain and improving flexibility. The tactile stimulation also prompts the release of endorphins, fostering a sense of calm and reducing stress. Studies suggest that regular massages can lower blood pressure and enhance immune function. Furthermore, the therapeutic touch promotes better sleep quality and may alleviate symptoms of anxiety and depression. As a holistic approach, massage therapy not only rejuvenates the body but also nurtures mental health, emphasizing its transformative power in promoting relaxation, healing, and a balanced life.

Deep breathing, like the 4-4-8 technique, reduces stress, calms the nervous system, improves focus, and supports better sleep. It may help with pain management, lower blood pressure, and boost oxygen levels. Practice by inhaling, holding, and exhaling slowly in a relaxed position to feel more centered and at ease. Closing your eyes can deepen relaxation and reduce distractions. Just a few minutes a day can make a noticeable difference in your overall well-being, helping you feel more balanced and refreshed.

Words to Live By

“The world is reflecting back to you the thoughts you think, the words you speak and the actions you take. If you want to change the world, you must start within yourself.” – Keith Macpherson

Homemade Frozen Yogurt

Ingredients: 1 cup plain greek yogurt; 4 cups frozen strawberries (or other fruit); 3-4 Tbsp pure maple syrup; 1 tsp vanilla extract. Directions: Add ingredients to your food processor. Pulse and blend until a thick “froyo” texture is formed. Serve and enjoy right away, or freeze for a firmer texture. Happy Summer!

Men’s Health Month

June is Men’s Health Month—a perfect time to focus on total wellness, including often-overlooked dental care. Poor oral hygiene can contribute to serious health issues like heart disease, diabetes, and stroke. Men are statistically less likely to visit the dentist regularly, increasing their risk of gum disease and oral cancer. Simple habits like brushing twice a day, flossing, and scheduling regular dental checkups can greatly improve both oral and overall health. This month, take action—because a healthy smile is more than just cosmetic; it’s a vital part of your long-term well-being. Prioritize your health today.
