Optimize Your Golf Game!

Have you taken that first swing of the day and felt like things just aren’t moving right? Whether you are late for your tee time, focused on your first big drive, or catching up with your friends, it is easy to forget the importance of a good warm up. Your warmup can be the difference between a great day on the course, or a frustrating day with fifteen bogies and a strained rotator cuff. Even before trying your warm up swings, you should start with a routine of stretching and mobility exercises. This includes warming up your shoulders, thoracic spine, lumbar spine, hip mobility…and gets the blood pumping!

Hair Care Habits to Prevent Hair Loss

Protect your strands and prevent hair loss with these hair care habits. Be gentle when washing and drying to avoid breakage, especially when hair is wet and fragile. Use mild shampoo and conditioner, avoiding hot water. Massage your scalp regularly to stimulate blood flow and promote healthy hair growth. Minimize heat styling and embrace natural drying methods. Nourish your hair from within with a balanced diet rich in protein, vitamins, and minerals. Avoid excessive tension through tight hairstyles or constant pulling. By caring for your hair diligently, you’ll maintain its strength and prevent unwanted hair loss.

Aging at Home

Many seniors would prefer to stay at home than move into a care facility, but there are some challenges to consider: finances, physical mobility, social network, health concerns, and safety in the home. If your aging loved one decides to remain at home, discuss plans as a family and possibly with a trusted advisor. It’s important to ensure your parent(s) can live comfortably and safely at home, using various services, aids and tools to make things easier. Especially for clients with dementia, in-home care can also provide much-needed day-to-day practical and emotional support, as well as an escort on outings.

Do I Have Hearing Loss?

The first noticeable sign of hearing loss is often difficulty in communication between two people. It can be frustrating to both sides when one person is repeating themselves. When communicating with a person who has hearing loss, volume is not always the biggest concern; speed and articulation of the words can be more a factor. Eye contact, a slightly slower pace of talking and clarity of words is crucial. If you suspect that you or a loved one has hearing loss, a hearing professional can help you experience an improved quality of life. Contact us today to learn more.

Help Support Seniors in Our Community today!

All support is extremely valuable, be it donations, volunteer time or simply word-of-mouth. It is the people of Saskatoon that enable us to continue helping the city’s venerable population. Your generous donations help us progress our services while playing a vital role in keeping seniors independent. Every dollar of support stays right here in Saskatoon. We have many lower-income seniors that need our services, and the generosity of your support allows us to be able to assist them. Donations of $20 or over will get a tax receipt. We graciously accept cheques, cash, or e-transfer.

Grocery Delivery Program

Regardless of age, we all need to eat. But those groceries can be heavy, and the store can be busy and loud. Or you might not have time for it amidst all your other appointments and obligations. So let us shop on your behalf by joining our grocery program. Our members can phone or e-mail us on Monday and provide us with a detailed shopping list and a store to go to. We will buy what you need and deliver it to you. We can even buy non-food items like yarn or cutlery. And you’re not obligated to order every week. Some people even only order once to get that item from a store that’s too far from home. But slots are limited (another reason why our volunteers are so important) so contact us for more information.

We’re Hiring!

We have several positions available in our Organization including Housekeeping, Yard Work and Grocery Delivery. If you enjoy working with Seniors and making a difference in their lives please contact us today.

Yardwork Services

Services include lawn cutting, fall cleanup of leaves, gardening, flower beds and weeding. As with all of our services we can provide as much or as little based on what your needs are. We can also do small hedge trimming and pruning. As always if cost is a barrier we will work with you to overcome that barrier. During spring and fall we can also do outside window cleaning and eaves cleaning as well.

Volunteers Needed!

Here at Saskatoon Services for Seniors we strive to make a difference every day. We do this by helping seniors to remain in their own homes safely for as long as possible. The summer season offers our very popular Yard Work and Gardening programs. We encourage anyone with a heart of gold who likes working outdoors to volunteer so that seniors in our community can keep their yards and gardens looking beautiful now that winter has finally receded. If you or someone you know would be interested in helping seniors in our community, please contact our office today. All help is greatly appreciated.

Plan (Far) Ahead to Protect Loved Ones

Over the course of your life, you’ll need to take steps to protect the financial wellbeing of your loved ones for after you’ve passed away. Consider pre-paying for your cemetery and funeral arrangements. You’ll avoid future price increases associated with burial or cremation and just as importantly, you’ll spare you’re grieving loved ones the necessity of planning your arrangements. None of us can predict the future, so it’s important to do whatever you can, as soon as you can, to protect your loved ones.
