The Mouth/Body Health Connection

Did you know that you cannot have good general health if you have poor oral health? Gum disease (periodontitis) is an infection of the gums that can have major impacts on your oral and overall health. The bacteria in your mouth can make its way into the bloodstream and begin to cause problems elsewhere in the body. Gum disease has been linked to lung disease, cardiovascular disease, and even to Alzheimer’s. Be sure to have regular checkups and brush your teeth and gums every day for a healthier mouth and body.

Self-Resiliency & Massage Therapy

Now more than ever, self-management tools are crucial for anyone experiencing persistent or reoccurring body pain. If you are concerned about direct contact, we can do a movement therapy session where social distancing can be maintained the entire time. Movement therapy sessions are not billable as massage therapy but will be offered at a heavily discounted rate. Virtual options are available if you feel safer at home or in case we need to temporarily close again.

When the spine and nervous system are healthy, so are you.

What is Qigong?

Qigong is an ancient Chinese system of health and well-being that coordinates body movement and posture, with breathing and meditation. Unlike yoga, which is mainly a stationary physical practice of static stretches performed in sequence on a mat, Qigong is performed standing and its movements are more dynamic and fluid in nature. This movement helps to move blood and oxygen around the body, nourishing the organs and tissues and promoting healing. In addition, the connection of the mind to the breath and physical movements in qigong helps to calm the mind, relieving emotional stress and mental anxiety.

The Hearing Loss/Alzheimer’s Connections

Recent research suggests that improving hearing loss with hearing aids reduces the risk for Alzheimer’s disease and dementia. In 2011, a team of Johns Hopkins medical school researchers discovered a significant association between hearing loss and the risk of developing these unwanted cognitive conditions. The worse someone’s hearing gets, the greater their risk of developing Alzheimer’s or dementia. The researchers believe their findings could have substantial implications for individuals and public health because hearing loss is treatable with hearing instruments. These findings underscore how important regular hearing tests are as part of preventative health care.

How Healthy Is Your Home?

Are the chemicals you’re using to clean your home actually doing more harm than good? The average household contains more than 60 harmful chemicals, and these can negatively impact your health and the health of your family. Cleaning with harsh chemicals can result in irritation in the eyes or throat, headaches, and even long-term effects like endocrine disruption (hormonal effects) and asthma. Consider using more plant and enzyme-based natural products that will get your home sparkling clean without sacrificing your family’s health. Natural ingredients can be just as effective, and provide the added benefit of being environmentally friendly as well!

Chiropractic Care for Pregnancy

Why is chiropractic care so important during pregnancy? At its most basic premise, chiropractic will help you and your nervous system adapt during this major shift. It will help you deal with structural, hormonal and emotional stressors. Structurally, chiropractic will help keep your joints moving appropriately so you can make room for your growing baby. When the pelvis and low back vertebrae are moving appropriately, information can freely flow to all your muscles and organs, via your nerves. This may result in less pain and more nutrients to baby. Other benefits often seen in pregnant women under chiropractic care include headache relief, decrease in nausea and overall stress reduction. We are so honoured to check and adjust women during this monumental time in their lives.

Home is the Safest Place for Care

Many people want to remain in their own homes, independently, for as long as possible. The word “home” provides a sense of comfort, safety and familiarity. During the COVID pandemic, this couldn’t ring more true. With many businesses and services closed or severely limited, now is the time you may consider all inclusive home health care services. Staying home with all services provided by exclusive staff greatly reduces the risk for exposure to COVID-19 while still enabling you to remain safe, independent and alleviate potential loneliness.
