Now that it is January, the weather can be cold and crisp. Freezing temperatures and snow may cause you to want to stay indoors. There are many inside exercises you can do to keep fit and to keep your body moving. Using your own stair case to climb up and down is a good way to keep the strength in your legs and back, and to give you better balance and agility. Yoga poses and stretching will help keep the blood flowing and make you feel good and less tired. Happy New Year from Lifemark Physiotherapy!

Early Osteoporosis Detection
An EchoLight REMS scan is a quick, non-invasive way to assess bone health and detect early signs of osteoporosis. Unlike traditional bone density tests, REMS (Radiofrequency Echographic Multi-Spectrometry) technology uses ultrasound instead of radiation, making it safer and accessible for repeated use. The scan provides highly accurate measurements of bone density and quality at key skeletal sites like the spine and hip, helping healthcare providers better assess fracture risk and monitor bone changes over time. Regular REMS scans can empower individuals to take early, proactive steps for stronger bones and overall health, supporting a lifetime of active living.
Coldest Night of the Year Fundraising Event
Coldest Night of the Year (CNOY) is a winterrific family-friendly 2 or 5 km fundraising walk in support of local charities serving people experiencing hurt, hunger, and homelessness. On February 22, 2025, Canadians in over 200 communities will step outside the warmth and comfort of home to shine a light of welcome and compassion in their communities. In Saskatoon, CNOY helps YWCA Saskatoon provide shelter, care, and holistic support to women and families experiencing homelessness to heal and find hope. Time to Move!
We all know exercise is important, but how much exercise should we be getting? According to the Canadian physical activity guidelines, most adults should get at least 150 minutes of moderate to vigorous intensity aerobic physical activity per week, in bouts of 10 minutes or more, to achieve health benefits. Muscle and bone strengthening activities using major muscle groups should be done at least 2 days a week. Start by finding something you enjoy doing, like a new sport, a walking club, or a walking/cycling commute to work. A physical therapist can also help you achieve your exercise goals!
Start the Year with Emotional Clarity
As we step into the New Year, it’s the perfect time to focus on nurturing our emotional health. Conflict can arise from misunderstandings, stress, and unmet needs. A powerful way to start the year is by setting clear intentions for open communication and self-awareness. Take time each day to check in with your emotions, practice active listening, and approach conversations with empathy. Remember, resolution starts within. Prioritize self-care and give yourself permission to step back when needed. As a conflict counselor, you can help others achieve peace by embracing these principles in your own life, leading by example.
A New Year of Care
Has your aging loved one had: a minor or major fall, noticeable weight loss, clutter accumulation in the home, missed appointments or overdue bills? Now is the time to discuss plans and consult with professionals. Being a family caregiver can be stressful. Often, we are balancing care for an aging loved one with the needs of our own children, grandchildren, work, or other commitments. Care needs can be relentless. As you begin a new year, consider how professional in-home care for an aging loved one will improve their quality of life and support you as well.
30-Day Self-Love Selfie Challenge!
In a world of influencers, many of us dislike how we look in photos. A few years ago, I began a journey to change this by posting a daily selfie on Facebook for one month. Through this practice, I cultivated self-love by aligning my inner world with my outer image. True fulfillment doesn’t always require external changes; sometimes, it’s about embracing yourself from within. If this resonates, join the 30-Day Selfie Challenge to Connect to Self-Love this January in a private Facebook group. Let’s discover the power of self-love together!
Reconnect with Reiki
In today’s fast-paced world, Reiki serves as a valuable tool for reconnecting with oneself. It offers support in revitalizing energy, alleviating daily stress, navigating life transitions, and fostering a spiritual connection. People come to reiki for all sorts of reasons. Some want to revitalise their energy levels, alleviate the stress of daily life, move through burnout, navigate life transitions with more ease or create momentum when they get stuck. Others are drawn to reiki for a spiritual connection, a desire to experience a greater sense of meaning in life. Beyond stress reduction, Reiki complements traditional pain management by potentially alleviating discomfort.
Reclaim Your Identity After Trauma
Trauma can trap you in cycles of people-pleasing, toxic relationships, and misplaced empathy. Over time, you may lose sight of your own needs, feeling responsible for others’ burdens and emotions. Caravan Counselling can help you break free from these patterns and redefine your self-worth. By addressing the root causes of your trauma, you can learn to set healthy boundaries, let go of what isn’t yours to carry, and reconnect with your true self. Take the first step toward healing today—because your worth doesn’t depend on pleasing others, but on embracing who you truly are.
