Minds in Motion

Minds in Motion is back with virtual and in-person sessions! Register now for our weekly program for those living with early to moderate signs of dementia and a care partner to connect with others through fitness, fun and friendship! This weekly program includes a gentle chair fitness class followed by engaging activities and conversation. With virtual and in person sessions across the province in accordance with COVID-19 safety measures, you can feel comfortable joining and taking part. Weihnachtsmarkt

We know Christmas is still a while away, but now is the time to sign up to be a vendor at our Weihnachtsmarkt. Plenty of crafts, baked goods, music and more festivities await you at our festive market! More information to follow closer to the date. Meals on Wheels

A healthy, warm and delicious meal cooked fresh daily and delivered to your door. Meals are cooked at the Centre, Monday to Friday. Whether it has become harder for you to cook for yourself or you want to add some variety to your life, this program is perfect for you! Purchase meals whenever you’d like or sign up for weekly or monthly delivery. We have two Meals on Wheels programs running out of Steinbach and Grunthal. Meals may be purchased for $7 for delivery (residents of Steinbach & Grunthal) or pickup. A meal includes soup, a main dish, sides and dessert. Please call 204-320-4600 with any questions or to order a meal. To receive a same day meal, you must call before 9 am. September Special Meal ($10): September 14: Grandparent’s Day – Farmer Sausage, Kielke with Cream Gravy and Fried Onions, Coleslaw and a Chocolatey Dessert.

Community Resources

Circle of Friends Adult Day Program
Our Circle of Friends program is designed to strengthen an individual’s ability to continue to function in their homes as well as remain active in the community. The program runs twice a week on Tuesdays and Fridays from 9:30 am to 2:30 pm. Transportation can be arranged through Steinbach Handi Van. What are some of the things we do? We have lots of coffee and snacks, participate in light exercise and arts and crafts or games. We often have special guests who perform live music and go out for lunch in the community. Clean Eating Recipe

Butternut Squash Soup. Ingredients: 15 ml olive oil. 1 onion. 1 butternut squash. 2 celery stalks. 2 garlic cloves. 1 potato. 2 ml pepper. 1, 5 L vegetable broth. 250 ml cooking cream. Directions: Heat oil in a large saucepan over medium heat and sauté onions for 4 minutes. Add squash, celery, garlic, potato, and pepper. Pour in vegetable broth and bring to a boil, then reduce heat to low. Simmer uncovered for 30 minutes. In a blender, puree mixture into a smooth soup. Return soup to the saucepan and add cream. Reheat over low heat before serving. Stir in 1 tbsp (15 mL) finely grated ginger and 1 tsp (5 mL) hot pepper flakes for a warm, spicy kick.

World Alzheimer’s Month

Worldwide, an astounding 50 million are diagnosed with dementia and over 23,000 of them live in Manitoba. Having a globally coordinated World Alzheimer’s Month sends a strong message to governments and policy makers, alerting them to the fact that dementia is a serious health issue that will have overwhelming implications on services and health systems around the world as the population grows older. We’ll be wearing blue on World Alzheimer’s Day, September 21st to show our support. Will you? Make sure to post your photos to social media, tag us and use the hashtag #goblueforalz.
