Diabetic? Pre-Diabetic?

Type 2 diabetes is caused by consuming a diet that has resulted in your body developing metabolic syndrome and subsequently insulin resistance. Type 1 diabetes has been determined to be an inflammatory condition. Correct your diet and your body will heal to the extent that it can. It is typical for people to no longer require medications to ‘manage’ their T2 diabetic condition once they are permanently consuming a diet that respects the foods that their body is genetically designed to thrive on. T1 diabetics, once consuming a corrected diet, will allow inflammation to subside and your metabolism to function in an optimal fashion. Dependence on insulin will be greatly reduced, even possibly eliminated. Who Pays When You Can’t Work?

1 in every 3 working Canadians will experience a disability that lasts longer than 90 days. Bills still need to be paid even if you can’t work. It’s important to know what you’re covered for and how much you will receive should a disability disrupt your life. Contributing to the Canada Pension Plan doesn’t mean you qualify for the CPP Disability Benefit. The disability must be considered “severe and prolonged.” A temporary condition may make it difficult for a successful claim. It’s possible a more substantial benefit of disability income could come from the Workers Compensation Board (WCB), but know that this benefit is only payable if your injury occurs at work, performing the duties of your job. The third source of income replacement is through a disability insurance policy. Read carefully, contracts have unique definitions for what qualifies as a disability. Don’t wait until an injury happens to ask “who pays me now?”

Re-Think Omega Fatty Acids!

Fat could be your biggest ally in health maintenance and cardiovascular disease prevention. But we need to think about the RIGHT fats. Omega fatty acids are crucial for helping to lower bad cholesterol and triglycerides. What’s Your Third Option?

Making choices can be stressful. We weigh the pros and cons of both options and analyze them from all angles, waiting for clarity to emerge. Only, sometimes, it doesn’t. The only thing that emerges is a gnawing feeling of frustration from our inability to choose. This frustration is our sign that neither choice is the right one. They either don’t completely align with our values, or they make us feel like we are settling or taking an unnecessary risk. Unfortunately, we become so emotionally invested in our initial process that we fail to realize we always have a third option. This third option requires a fresh perspective, so take a step back, and get in touch with your core values to determine which one has been keeping you from moving forward. Your choice will soon become clear.

Knitting for Prevention of Alzheimer’s

A recent study at the Mayo Clinic found that learning to knit or crochet later in life as a cognitive exercise can reduce or delay the symptoms of Alzheimer’s by 30-50%. Learning new techniques together with hand-eye coordination builds neural networks that are very important in the prevention of Alzheimer’s. For those recently diagnosed with Alzheimer’s, learning to knit and crochet can be very helpful because of the repetitive motion so that the individual can remember how to create the stitches as the cognitive memory begins to fail. Learning to knit or crochet with a parent that has symptoms of this disease can also provide a way to communicate and connect as symptoms worsen. Keeping the hands busy while knitting or crocheting can help calm those experiencing Alzheimer’s and also give them a sense of purpose as they create projects.
