Theatre – Murder in Green Meadows

Nanaimo Theatre Group opens the season with Douglas Post’s Murder in Green Meadows, a murder mystery filled with so many twists and turns the audience will be second guessing themselves right up to the final curtain. Thomas Devereaux, a successful architect and local contractor and his lovely wife, Joan, have recently moved into their dream home. They are soon visited by their new neighbours, and a friendship develops between the two couples. But underneath the cool, Middle American exterior, something is truly rotten. The show opens October 18 at the Bailey Studio.

How Can I Manage Hearing Aids?

Selecting hearing technology and a treatment plan for an individual with hearing loss is very thorough and takes all aspects into consideration. If physical limitations such as reduced dexterity or vision loss are present, Hearing Care Professionals will find the best way to accommodate and meet your needs. They look at various options and work with hearing aid manufacturers to add and/or modify features to accomodate these limitations. In addition, they have alternate ways to manage insertion, removal and maintenance of the hearing aids. Hearing Care Professionals will work with you to solve these and any other issue in question.

Look After Your Knees

Knees. We rarely think about them until they affect how we live our lives. They get bumped and scraped and bruised, and we just shrug it off. But what if the injuries are more severe? If we need surgery to repair damage knees or need to have them replaced, what happens to our lives then? We need to care for our knees so they can care for us throughout our life. Regular exercise from an early age can help. Strength training can protect the knee joint from injury and maintaining good flexibility is essential. Theatre Production: Glorious

Glorious, the outrageously hilarious comedy about the worst singer in the world, brings the story of Florence Foster Jenkins to life on the Chemainus Theatre Festival stage this fall. First premiering on London’s West End in 2005, this delightfully comedic play portrays the story of “An extraordinary woman who had the guts to follow her dream”. Known as ‘The first lady of the sliding scale’, Jenkins’ charm lies somewhere between Norma Desmond and Lucille Ball. During World War II, the amateur singer and flamboyant socialite was the squeaky soprano du jour, singing her way into the hearts of New York society.

Risk vs Reward

All gambling, be it poker, a sports game, scratch’n win tickets etc. involves risking something of value in the hopes of winning something by chance. There are three elements to gambling: Wager is the cost of playing in the form of a bet or stake. This can be money or possessions that you are prepared to lose. Chance is the uncertainty and the fact that the outcome of the gamble cannot be predicted or guaranteed. Risk is the value of the wager that has been made on an uncertain outcome. Before you gamble, ask yourself; “Is the potential of winning worth the risk of losing?”

When Should I Wear My Hearing Aids?

It is important to wear hearing aids during all waking hours (with the exception of showering, swimming, and environments where hearing protection should be used). Hearing aids provide the brain with auditory input and the brain creates and reforms new neural networks. If the hearing aids are only used when needed, then these new networks are not formed nor strengthened. Occasional hearing aid use can also lead to auditory deprivation and can effect a person’s ability to understand speech. When Living Alone is No Longer an Option

The phone rings and the person on the other line says, “Your mom fell and broke her hip. She needs surgery and rehab.” When she is released from rehab, you realize that she can no longer live alone. It is easy to compare the cost of basic room, board and food services. However, often there are other “hidden” fees associated with “independent” and “assisted living” facilities. These may include health care and medication related fees, fees for personal care and other treatments. All these add up! Choosing care home needs for a loved one requires knowing the full financial cost in addition to the usual “room and board.”
