Carrier Oils are essential in your aromatherapy toolkit. This term refers to a wide range of different solutions such as coconut, sweet almond, or grapeseed oil. It is not recommended to put essential oils directly on the skin, so they must be mixed with a carrier oil in order to ensure your safety (and the essential oil’s benefits) when used topically. As an alternative to a simple oil, our Moisturizing Base Cream also ensures safe application. 1% dilution would be 7 drops per 30 ml of carrier oil or cream. The Base Cream is fully customizable, allowing you to choose which scents and properties best suit your individual needs.
The Golden Rule – A Model of Self-Care
The Golden Rule says, “Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.” The presumption of this rule implies that you look after yourself FIRST with the highest level of respect and care and then you treat ALL others in the same way. How do you honour your personal time? How do you fill your cup of nutriment first? Do you plan for time daily and weekly to lovingly meet your needs for rejuvenation? How can you implement this in your life and how can you lovingly enforce it with your family?

Music and Dementia
The effects of dementia are devastating to individuals and their families. Researchers are keen to find ways to ease its symptoms and restore abilities and memory. Studies on music and dementia have shown promising findings. Did you know that the area of the brain associated with musical memory tends to be least affected by dementia? Music therapy may help reduce cognitive decline while improving the memory of people with dementia. In one study, test subjects performed better on memory tests when they listened to music. It has also been found that the emotional content of music can bring back emotional memories.
Effective Treatment for Tendon Injury
Tendonitis is an acutely inflamed/swollen tendon, while tendinosis, on the other hand, is a chronically damaged tendon with necrotic tissue. Common tendon injuries include: Achilles tendonitis/osis, Plantar fasciitis/osis, Long Head of Biceps tendonitis/osis. Extracorporeal Shock Wave Therapy (ESWT) is a non-invasive treatment that involves creating a series of low energy acoustic wave pulsations that are applied to the tendon. It is designed to create breakdown and inflammation in the tendon to stimulate angiogenesis (new blood vessel formation). ESWT in conjunction with active rehabilitation & Class IV Laser has proven to be an effective treatment for the management of tendon injury.
You Have What it Takes!
The world is different, but does that mean you stop looking after your health? Health is your biggest asset! So what better time to start changing it? The first thing to do is take action towards your health goal. Know that this first attempt at action will be the worst because you have NO momentum or skills. Momentum is MOVEMENT, and because you’re learning it gets easier. Improving your health is about remembering your why, realizing excuses are valid, the world isn’t fair, and the only way out is to start! Now, is the time to take control of your health!
Symptoms of an Old Injury?
Frustrated with how slow symptom resolution can take? You’re not alone! There’s a lot of healing that goes beyond what any manual therapy can do. When an old injury has long since healed, what lingers is years of built up guarding, fear, compensations, resistance, and exhaustion. Your symptoms are real, and your frustrations understandable. I like to combine massage therapy with gentle movement explorations. The relief a massage provides allows the opportunity to come back to your breath, connect with your body and get out of your head and into your bones. In the case of an old injury, we can use gentle movement to finish healing.
Ask The Expert
Q: Does anyone wear hard contact lenses any longer? My mom had them in the 1970’s.
A: Yes; the modern equivalents are called rigid gas permeable lenses, and they can still be a great choice for certain eye problems. They are less common than soft contact lenses, so you may need to ask around to see where they are obtainable.
Indulge in Winter Aromas
Make your home smell warm and cozy with the help of essential oils. Oils such as Cinnamon, Clove Bud, and Nutmeg may be used to simulate the warm smells of baking. In your diffuser, add 3-5 drops and notice how a cold room starts to feel pleasant and inviting. If you wish to make your home smell like a winter forest, Black Spruce, Cedarwood, and Pine essential oils are great to use. If you are looking for a pre-made winter blend, our Winter Warmth diffuser blend may be perfect for you. This synergy of Birch, Bitter Orange, Cinnamon, Pine, and Vetivert will remind you that there is warmth even in the coldest months.
Therapeutic Botox for Migraines
If you get migraine headaches often, you may wonder if there’s anything you can do to prevent them. Botox was approved in 2010 for adults who get chronic migraines. Botox works by blocking chemicals called neurotransmitters that carry pain signals from your brain. Botox is like a roadblock in that pathway. It stops the chemicals before they get to the nerve endings around your head and neck. Studies have shown that Botox cut down the total number of days migraine sufferers have headaches. They also have more “crystal-clear” – pain-free – days each month, and they report fewer days off work.
