Compassion – or Excuses?

We all need to cut ourselves some slack sometimes. But that can get away from us – compassion can seem like a loophole, a cop-out, or a way out. Then, filled with regrets, we may start self-blaming to compensate! However, real self-compassion is not an excuse – nor is self-discipline a punishment. How do you motivate yourself without being too hard or too soft? How do you operate effectively and work towards your goals? Counselling is a safe and neutral place to work out better ways to meet your commitments without hurting yourself.

Benefits of Well-Fitting Partial Dentures

When a person needs a partial denture, it is crucial to have one that fits properly. Metal partial frames are the preferred choice because they are strong and thin. They are more comfortable and enable clearer speech. A good-fitting partial will balance your bite to help you chew better and have a healthier jaw joint (TMJ), plus it will provide support for lips and cheeks. If a partial is not fitting tight around the natural teeth, it will cause damage to the roots of the teeth. On average, partial dentures should be replaced every 7 years.

Just Breathe!

Keeping Dogs Calm During Fireworks

Here are 5 tips to help your dog cope with fireworks:
• Make sure your dog is wearing identification or has a microchip, in case they run away.
• Keep your dog indoors during fireworks, as far away as possible from the noise.
• Place a thick blanket over their kennel to help muffle the sounds, but make sure they won’t overheat.
• Tire your dog out with plenty of exercise during the day, so they’ll be calmer once the fireworks start.
• Give your dog something yummy to chew on in their kennel such as a Kong filled with goodies.

Building and Protecting Resilience

Resilience: To ‘bounce back’ quickly. We all want to bounce back to our best as quickly as possible, and we can… if we build and protect our resilience. How do we do that? Practising activities that nurture our WHOLE SELF, such as being aware of breathing; walking outside in the balance of nature; feeling the vibration of sound in our singing, whistling, listening, or dancing; and noticing and remembering our own words of wisdom, such as ‘I’m okay about this’.
Book an appointment with a clinical counsellor to talk about building and protecting your resilience.
