“We do not have to become heroes overnight. Just a step at a time, meeting each thing that comes up, seeing it is not as dreadful as it appeared, discovering we have the strength to stare it down.” –Eleanor Roosevelt

Book Club: Healthy Aging

A Lifelong Guide to Your Wellbeing. Best-selling author Dr. Weil’s advice combines traditional and non-traditional medical advice to help us age in good health. Highlights include advice on eating right, nutrition, and the anti-inflammatory diet, exercising right, and a solid background on the aging process in general terms. Weil wants us to be sensible about growing old… He argues that we should not fight aging. There is no winning that war. Instead, we should concentrate on aging well.

Brain Tumor Awareness Month

The Brain Tumour Foundation of Canada’s mission is to reach every person in Canada who is affected by a brain tumour through support, education, information, and research. Every day, 27 Canadians are diagnosed with a brain tumour. We work to serve the needs of both malignant and non-malignant brain tumours. Research funded by Brain Tumour Foundation of Canada has helped improve the accuracy of radiation treatments, shorten treatment regimen times, limit side effects from chemo, and improve quality of life for patients after surgery. We are the sole funder of the Brain Tumour Tissue Bank, providing free samples to clinical researchers around the world to further the search for a cure.

Have a Happy Retirement

As retirement age draws near, most of us develop a vision of what those years will look like. Active senior living communities give older adults the support they need to live their best life. Research shows that older adults who have purpose often live longer, healthier lives. Moving to an active senior living community will provide you with access to life-enrichment programs, volunteer opportunities, the companionship of peers, and a variety of activities and programs to participate in. Each of these can aid in finding purpose once you are no longer raising a family or pursuing a career.

Aronia Berries are Powerful Antioxidants

Today more than ever, a healthy immune system is important. According to Healthline, Aronia berries may strengthen the immune system and even counteract some infections. Aronia –grown in BC – contains powerful antioxidants that remove harmful free oxygen radicals from cells. In the spectrum of nutrition, berries rank near the top, and among berries, none are more nutritious than the Aronia berry. Research shows that in diabetics, Aronia berry juice, when taken regularly, reduced blood glucose. Aronia extracts have also reduced inflammation and improved immunity. And in hard-to-treat cancers, combining Aronia with chemotherapy improved the effectiveness of conventional drugs.
