Never Throw Out a Will!

Did you know that the executor of an estate may have responsibilities that extend long after probate is closed? Cemetery plots purchased by a deceased loved one remain the property of their estate and it is the executor who decides who may go in the plot. Frequently families wish to bury an urn or two with the casket of a grandparent, but without that will it is a more difficult paperwork process. At Hatley Memorial Gardens we specialize in making that process as easy as possible. If you have family with us, consider locating that will and calling us today to see about assigning burial rights to additional family members.

Understanding Reverse Mortgages

Reverse mortgages, often misunderstood, can be a helpful option for homeowners 55 and older. They allow you to access up to 55% of the equity in your home, based on your age, home type, and its appraised value. One common myth is that the bank takes ownership, which is not true. You always retain the title and ownership of your home. Another concern is owing more than the home is worth. Thankfully, lenders guarantee that, as long as obligations are met, you’ll never owe more than the fair market value at the time of repayment. Contact me to find out more.

BINGO: Identify Feelings

Once you’ve taken a calming breath, the next step in self-regulation is to name what you feel. Emotions are information, signals that guide how we respond. When we pause to identify what’s happening inside (“I feel frustrated,” “I feel nervous”), we move from reacting to reflecting and responding in the present. Naming feelings doesn’t make them stronger; it makes us stronger by giving clarity and choice in how to express. In my BINGO model, I stands for Identify Feelings, because feelings are normal, natural, and deserve to be recognized for what they are and what they tell us.

Enjoying the Holidays with Hearing Loss

If you have a hearing loss, attending family gatherings with many people can be stressful. Here are three tips to ensure a peaceful and enjoyable holiday season. 1. Spend time with family members one-on-one. 2. Try to sit next to someone who will be willing to keep you in on the conversation if you miss anything that has been said. 3. Book a check of your hearing aids before the holiday season starts to ensure they are working their best. Sit back, relax, and enjoy the laughter of your kids, grandkids, or family members as they open presents or sit around the table. Happy Holidays!
