Handwashing is an effective way to help prevent the spread of germs and infection, as hands are one of the major ways in which infections are spread. Most people touch their faces numerous times a day, sometimes without even realizing it, and can transfer germs from surfaces to their eyes, nose, and mouth. The proper way to wash your hands is to wet your hands with water, lather your hands with soap (including the back of your hands, under your nails, and between your fingers) and scrub for at least 20 seconds, rinse your hands well, and dry them thoroughly.
