Acupuncture for Peripheral Neuropathy

Peripheral Neuropathy is a neurological condition that can cause symptoms such as weakness, cramping, decreased tendon reflexes, numbness, pain, and a burning sensation, usually in the limbs. The peripheral nervous system is commonly affected in diabetic patients, which is known as diabetic peripheral neuropathy (DPN). Studies have found that acupuncture can help improve nerve conduction in those with DPN, as well as numbness, pain, rigidity and alterations in temperature perception. Studies also suggest that acupuncture may accelerate the nerve regenerative process in DPN patients, who normally may have delayed nerve regeneration that can cause pain and numbness.
