Q: Is it really possible to detect a brain tumour during an eye exam?
A: Yes, but only indirectly. For example, some types of brain tumours can cause changes to the optic nerve and can affect vision a certain way, and these things can be picked up during a routine eye exam. Further testing and imaging would be necessary to make a proper diagnosis in such a case, and it should be stated that many types of brain tumours do not affect the eyes at all.
