Stepping outside into the warmth of a spring day is one of the best moments of the year. Research has shown a strong connection between human health and nature, with a focus on ‘green exercise’. Green exercise is physical activity that takes place in a natural setting. Exercising outdoors helps improve mental and physical health – if you add in some sunlight and a little Vitamin D, you’ll find your mood improving with every step! Aging At Home
Many seniors would prefer to stay at home than move into a senior care home, but there are some challenges to consider. Factors like finances, physical mobility, social network, health concerns, and safety in the home are all things to think about. If you decide to remain in your home, discuss your plans with your family or a trusted advisor. It’s important to prepare your home to ensure you can live comfortably and safely there, using various aids and tools to make things easier. In-home care can also provide much-needed day-to-day support, as well as transportation to appointments and gatherings.
Gardening for Active Aging
Gardening is an activity that people of all ages can enjoy and offers many benefits to those interested in staying active as they age. The movements involved in gardening can amount to a moderate-intensity workout that helps aging bodies stay more flexible and maintain a healthy weight. Gardening also boosts mood and encourages better mental health. The sights, sounds, smells, and textures can invoke a sense of calm and contentment, as well as a sense of purpose. It’s possible to adapt gardening activities to mobility and skill levels by using easily accessible containers, ergonomic tools, and simple gardening techniques.

Is Your Indoor Air Healthy?
We all care about our family’s health, but have you considered the quality of the air inside of our homes? Allergies, illness, and long-term health can all be affected either in a positive or negative fashion depending on the quality of the air inside your home. According to the Environmental Protection Agency the air inside your home can be 2 to 10 times more polluted than the outside air. It is difficult for our immune system to keep up with the abundance of pollen, dander, smoke, mold, bacteria, and chemical gases that are locked inside. Consider investing in an air purifier to keep your home and your family healthy.
Connecting With Connie
Our mission is to facilitate healthy aging connected to community life for older Manitobans and their families. We plan to do this by integrating program design and delivery of front-line services through leadership, learning, connection and community engagement with our members who are committed to an age friendly path. If older adults are socially isolated it may place them at an increased risk of being a victim of crime, abuse, falls, or other hazards. Maintaining meaningful social connections is important across the course of your life and can assist us all in aging well. Connect to your local senior centre/group.
