Eye Care for All-Day Computer Users
Depending on the study, 50 to 90 per cent of people who are on their computers a lot experience issues with their eyes, including eye strain, red eyes, and eye twitching. Unfortunately, those of us using computers for work can’t just turn them off and walk away; we need to find ways to care for our eyes in spite of our computer use. The first step is to get an eye exam to evaluate how your eyes are doing today. After that, there are actions you can take to protect your eyes as much as possible, such as reducing ambient lighting and using floor lights rather than overhead fluorescent lights.
Quit Smoking this Winter
As the weather gets cooler, the longing to get cozy and stay inside with loved ones increases. Having even one cigarette outside in the cold (and temperatures will keep dropping!) takes you away from this. Why not look for better ways to deal with stress and pain that allow you to stay inside with your loved ones and improve your health at the same time? Consider a cardio workout at the gym – this way you can blow off steam and pump healthy endorphins through your body. Cardio exercise also helps to increase oxygen capacity in your lungs!
Is Your Spine Winter-Ready?
Are you ready for winter? Many of us would say no! After all, summer is always more pleasant, thanks to the nicer weather. A great way to make winter more pleasing is to get outside and enjoy the season by staying active! Winter activities such as walking, skiing, ice skating, and sledding demand a good degree of flexibility. Our flexibility is completely dependent on good spinal dynamics. Is your spine able to handle winter? Are you ready to tackle the challenges of the season? Visit your chiropractor to discuss how to get your spine prepped for winter fun!
Wellness Product Review
Flushing toxins with S.A. Wilsons Organic Enema Coffee.
A coffee enema is a type of colon cleanse used in alternative medicine. Discover this remedy to assist your body in flushing out toxic metabolites and heavy metals – bolstering immunity, increasing energy and balancing your mood! Coffee enemas help to pull out the endotoxins released by dying bacteria and boost our body’s natural antioxidant production. Caffeine, along with coffee’s other two power players, theobromine and theophylline, have been shown to open the bile ducts in the liver, dilate blood vessels, relax smooth muscles and encourage bile flow. When consumed rectally, coffee boosts liver enzyme activity up to 700% of normal levels. Available at Red River Coop Southdale location.
Hearing Loss and Brain Health
Hearing involves not only your ears but also the brain, so it’s no wonder that hearing loss can go hand in hand with thinking and memory problems. Studies are increasingly linking hearing loss to issues such as faster brain shrinkage, earlier onset of significant cognitive impairment, and up to a quintupled risk of dementia. Addressing conditions such as hearing loss, however, could help prevent a third of dementia cases worldwide, per a UK research collaborative. With hearing health and overall wellness so connected, it’s important to seek regular hearing checks and address listening difficulties early.
Are You Iron Deficient?
Iron deficiency knows no boundaries – from women (it is estimated that up to 26% of reproductive aged women are iron deficient), to athletes, the elderly, and vegetarians – shortage of this mineral is widespread. Iron is an essential element for the body, and when it’s low, energy levels decrease. Other tell-tale symptoms include: weakness, pale skin, dark under-eye circles, brittle hair and nails, shortness of breath, and cold hands and feet. Think you may be deficient? Try a natural liquid iron supplement. It will help fight back against iron deficiency by promoting the formation of healthy red blood cells.
Aloe Vera for Your Immune System
Aloe Vera contains many things that can help to improve your health. Essential enzymes in Aloe Vera break down proteins that are converted into amino acids, which are used as fuel for cells in the body. Bradykinase in Aloe Vera stimulates the immune system and helps to kill infections. You will also find good levels of zinc in Aloe Vera, which is an essential micronutrient that helps regulate hormones and maintain immunity. While it is not a cure, Aloe Vera can reduce the occurrence of viral symptoms and complications and potentially slow the spread of infection.
Are You Always in ‘Fight or Flight’ Mode?
Massage therapy is undeniably effective at getting people tapped in to their parasympathetic nervous system, which is more commonly called ‘rest and digest’. Unfortunately, many spend most of their days in ‘fight or flight’! When the parasympathetic nervous system is in charge, blood pressure and heart rate lower, breathing is fuller, oxygen and blood make it deeper into the body, tissues repair themselves, organs do their jobs better, and overall, mental health is much more relaxed and content. It’s not hard to understand why being in ‘rest and digest’ is more conducive to recovery, management and being better prepared to handle what life throws at us!
Healing with Reflexology
There are reflex points on your feet that relate to specific organs and glands in the body. Through the application of pressure on these reflexes using specific hand and finger techniques, reflexology therapy can relieve tension, improve blood circulation and support the body’s efforts to function optimally. The benefits of reflexology include its ability to stimulate nerve function, increase energy, boost circulation, induce a deep state of relaxation and eliminate toxins from the body. Your feet will love the pampering and you may feel calm and a sense of well-being.
