Mental Health Strategies for Colder Months

As the holiday season approaches, November and December often bring increased stress, financial strain, and reduced exposure to natural sunlight. These factors can contribute to declines in mood and overall well-being. Unlike December, November lacks statutory holidays, making it important to proactively support mental health. Taking a mental health day can be beneficial, especially when paired with frequent physical activity and social engagement, both enhance mood and resilience. Reduced sunlight can lead to lower Vitamin D levels, which are linked to depressive symptoms. Supplementation or light therapy (UV treatment) may help mitigate these effects and support emotional well-being.

Staying active also enhances both physical and mental well-being—whether walking, swimming, or hiking, keep moving to boost your overall health. If you have any concerns, don’t hesitate to talk with our pharmacists for guidance and support. Your health matters; take proactive steps this month and beyond.

Trochanteric Pain Syndrome

Trochanteric pain syndrome is a painful condition of the hip that is most common in women in their 40s-60s (but can affect men). This is commonly painful when sleeping on your side and can be aggravated with activities. This condition occurs when the gluteus medius muscle tendon is irritated and can alter biomechanics of the hip and can also cause trochanteric bursitis. These conditions have recently been grouped under the name of trochanteric pain syndrome. Shockwave therapy, and rehabilitation exercises are two treatments with the most favourable empirical evidence for this condition. Book with one of our chiropractors if you think you may have this condition to learn about treatment options.

Kundalini Yoga Benefits

Kundalini yoga combines movement, breathwork, chanting, and meditation to support physical, mental, and spiritual well-being. Physically, it improves flexibility, strength, circulation, posture, and can aid detoxification while balancing the nervous system. Stress is reduced as deep breathing and meditation lower cortisol and activate relaxation responses. Mentally and emotionally, regular practice enhances focus, memory, emotional balance, energy levels, and self-awareness. Many practitioners report reduced anxiety, greater clarity, and a stronger connection to their thoughts and emotions. Spiritually, Kundalini yoga can foster personal growth, heightened consciousness, emotional healing, and a deeper sense of purpose. By integrating body, mind, and spirit, this practice offers a holistic approach to wellness, helping individuals cultivate resilience, inner calm, and an increased awareness of their physical and emotional states. Whether for stress relief, energy, or spiritual exploration, Kundalini yoga provides a versatile path to overall well-being.

Stay Mobile & Comfortable this Winter

As temperatures drop, stiffness and discomfort often increase—especially for those with arthritis, old injuries, or chronic tension. Cold weather can slow circulation and tighten tissues, making movement harder. Gentle chiropractic care offers relief. Through soft tissue therapy and light joint mobilization, we help improve circulation, reduce stiffness, ease tight muscles, and support nerve function. These benefits enhance flexibility, comfort, and resilience during colder months. Regular chiropractic care keeps you active, mobile, and pain-free all season long—so you can move confidently, no matter the weather.

Stay Strong, Stay Steady

Maintaining strength and balance is one of the best ways to age successfully. As we grow older, muscle mass and bone density naturally decline but with regular exercise, we can slow that process and even reverse it. Simple activities like walking, yoga, or gardening are not enough. Aging doesn’t mean slowing down, it means moving smarter, staying strong, and continuing to live life with confidence and independence. The good news is Aging Successfully is not rocket science, you just need someone to know exactly how to train to get the results you want.

Supporting your mental well-being doesn’t have to be complicated. Small, consistent habits can make a big difference. Try pausing before replying to stressful messages to respond calmly, or add yoga to your routine for both physical and emotional balance. Morning or mid-day walks can clear your mind and reduce stress, while short walks throughout the day offer a refreshing mental reset. Practice deep breathing, such as box breathing, to ease anxiety and regain focus. Finally, move your bod, any form of exercise helps lift your mood and release tension. Find what works best and make it part of your day.

We Can All Use a Little More Joy

After hosting more than 400 spa parties in Saskatoon, I’ve seen how laughter, play, and creativity transform any group. Guests enjoy playful treatments like hand and foot soaks or funny face masks, then dive into making spa products together. What begins with careful measuring and “Am I doing this right?” quickly shifts into giggles, connection, and that spark of pride in what they’ve created. These aren’t just parties, they’re reminders that joy is healing, laughter is powerful, and connection truly matters. Spa Like a Boss: mildly hilarious, wildly entertaining.

Aging and Medication Dosing

As we age, changes to our blood pressure, kidneys, and muscles can affect how our bodies handle medications. For example, some types of blood pressure medications might not work as well for elderly patients. Because our kidneys start to slow down, drugs that are cleared from the body through the kidneys often need lower doses and closer monitoring. Losing muscle is also a normal part of aging and means that our bodies end up with a higher fat component, which can also affect medication dosing. These are some of the few things that our Pharamcists will consider when prescribing and dispensing your medications.
