As we enter February, we remind ourselves that this month hosts Random Acts of Kindness Day, Monday February 17th and that the small gestures of kindness have the power to change the world. Spreading love and positivity creates a more compassionate and caring society and in turn enhances self-care. Take the opportunity this month and especially on February 17th to make someone else’s day!
The Link Between Oral Health & Heart Health
Oral health significantly impacts heart health due to the connection between gum disease and cardiovascular conditions. Poor oral hygiene can lead to gum inflammation, or periodontitis, caused by harmful bacteria. These bacteria can enter the bloodstream, triggering systemic inflammation and contributing to the formation of arterial plaques, a condition known as atherosclerosis. This increases the risk of heart attack and stroke. Gum disease is also linked to higher levels of C-reactive protein (CRP), an inflammatory marker associated with heart disease. Maintaining good oral hygiene through brushing, flossing, and regular dental visits is essential for protecting both oral and cardiovascular health.
Treatment Centers after the holidays
Post-holiday, treatment centers become crucial as the holiday rush can lead to awareness of substance abuse issues that become exacerbated during the holidays, or perhaps someone who was lead astray from their treatment plan. As much as the holidays can be a time of loneliness for some, others it can bring realization of issues that are amplified during the holidays. Additionally, detoxification and treatment centers help individuals safely manage withdrawal symptoms after the holiday season and gain control with the proper guidance and support. Mobility Boost with Adjustable Beds
Adjustable beds can enhance mobility by providing support for individuals with mobility issues, making it easier to get in and out of bed independently. By adjusting the bed’s position, users can find a comfortable angle for movement, aiding tasks like dressing or eating in bed. This increased independence can improve overall quality of life for those with mobility challenges, promoting a sense of autonomy and reducing reliance on assistance.
Holistic Wellness Program
Youth Engagement & Empowerment program is available
for youth and operates five days a week (Tuesday to
Saturday) and is free to register. Transportation and food are
provided. Participation is required, and our goal is to provide
a safe space where youth can develop self-esteem, leadership
skills, and healthy relationships. We offer evening, summer,
and Saturday day programs, including cultural activities and
on-the-land camps. We aim to reduce illegal behaviors and
drug use among indigenous youth and address their mental
health concerns. Our team includes Elders, youth workers, and
various facilitators. We care about urban Indigenous youth and
are here to help and support them and their families.
Words To Live By
“The world is a mirror reflecting back at you. If you are judgemental, prepare to be judged back. If you are loving, then love will reflect back at you. It is your choice.” Keith Macpherson
Valentine’s No Bake Energy Bites
2 C Old fashion oatmeal
1/2 C shredded unsweetened coconut
1/2 C honey
1/2 C peanut butter (may substituted w/nut butter or nut-free seed butter)
1/4 C ground flaxseed or hemp seeds
1/2 C Valentine M&Ms, chopped
Mix together. Scoop out 1 Tablespoon, press and squeeze into balls. Store bites in airtight container up to 2 weeks in fridge or 3 months if frozen.
If the batter is too sticky, add more oats or the chill in fridge then roll into bites. If the batter won’t press and roll into balls, add more nut butter and honey. Pressing and squeezing the batter is key, it won’t simply “roll” into balls like cookie dough batter.

Laughter is the Best Medicine
I feel as if my body has gotten totally out of shape, so I got my doctor’s permission to join a fitness club. I decided to take an aerobics class for seniors. I bent, twisted, gyrated, jumped up and down, and perspired for an hour. But, by the time I got dressed class was over!
