Walks Give You Healthier Skin
Who knew the path to better skin and gut health started with a walk around the block? There’s a powerful connection between the gut and the skin. When your gut microbiome is balanced and inflammation is reduced, it often shows on the outside. People with healthier guts tend to have fewer breakouts, less redness, and more radiant, clear skin. Plus, increased blood flow from walking means better circulation to your skin, too, delivering nutrients and oxygen that help your complexion look fresher and more vibrant. So lace up your sneakers and step outside; every step is helping your gut, your digestion, and your glow.
Do you Feel Overwhelmed?
Are you feeling emotionally overwhelmed? This is a state of being that can be difficult to manage. It can prevent you from performing daily tasks and also your ability to think and act rationally. A number of things can cause emotional overwhelm including stress, traumatic events or relationship issues. Let’s explore how to release these emotions for better health – physically, emotionally, mentally or spiritually. As a Certified Body/Emotion Code Practitioner, Permelia can help you release unprocessed negative (trapped) emotions to create calm and bring back your sense of peace.
Heat Exhaustion & Heat Stroke
Heat exhaustion can occur if the body loses an excessive amount of fluid. As your body becomes dehydrated, it overheats, and you may feel faint, dizzy, and lightheaded. If left untreated, heat exhaustion may progress to heat stroke, a life-threatening condition. At this stage, your temperature rises to a dangerous level, and you may no longer sweat due to extreme dehydration. A person suffering from heat stroke may be in a state of confusion and disorientation. If you suspect someone is experiencing heat stroke, press their Lifeline Personal Help button or call 911, get them out of the heat, and apply cold compresses on the body to lower their body temperature quickly.
See Your Pharmacist for Minor Ailments
Your pharmacist is trained and authorized to assess and prescribe medications for minor ailments and contraception. Minor ailments are health conditions that can be managed with minimal treatment. If you are experiencing a skin rash, fungal infection, heartburn, seasonal allergies, shingles, urinary tract infections (UTIs), or a vaginal yeast infection, you can visit your pharmacist for a free assessment. After the assessment, your pharmacist may prescribe medication or refer you to another healthcare provider. The next time you have a minor health issue, consider booking an appointment with your pharmacist for a free assessment.
Travelling with Dentures
This summer, when you travel, be sure you are prepared for denture care. Bring a sealable container, a soft-bristle toothbrush, toothpaste, denture cleanser, adhesive, and any other items that you use regularly. If you have stored your old dentures dry, they will need to be soaked for up to 24 hours in water with a little Listerine in it. Always inspect the bathroom before you leave to be sure that you have everything. If you can find a denturist at your destination before you get there, you will at least have eliminated one concern. Contact them and note their hours.
Pleas Support the SOS Thrift Shop
Since 1969, SOS Thrift Shop has been a vital resource for our community, providing funding for essential programs and services. Over the years, it has grown into a vibrant hub where individuals can discover a variety of treasures, including clothing, appliances, games, and household items—all while positively impacting the well-being of local residents. Thrift Shop donors play a crucial role by contributing their gently used items at our drop-off zone, helping to keep items out of landfills while raising funds for our programs. Your support not only benefits you but also uplifts our local community!
Stay Hydrated this Summer
Warmer weather is a great invitation to enjoy the outdoors and nature. Staying hydrated is essential for maintaining health and keeping critical bodily functions working properly. Keeping a few tips in mind will ensure that you stay hydrated and continue to enjoy the activities that bring you joy. *Schedule water intake throughout the day. *Eat water-rich foods such as cucumbers, watermelon and broth. *Reduce water loss; excessive sweating can contribute to dehydration so be mindful of fluid loss during outside activities. *Make water more interesting by adding a bit of juice. Popsicles are also a great option – especially on warm days!

Stay Social with Hearing Loss
Socializing can be challenging for individuals with hearing loss, but a few considerate adjustments can make a significant difference. Always make sure to get their attention before you start speaking. Talk at a natural pace—avoid shouting—and use pauses to help them follow along. Keep your hands away from your face so they can see your lips clearly. Focus on one topic at a time and inform them if the subject changes. Choose seating arrangements that allow them to see everyone’s faces clearly. Most importantly, check in with them frequently. If they seem confused, restate your message using simpler, shorter sentences to help keep them engaged and included.
