While remaining at home is possible for some seniors, many others may need to move to Independent Living with Services to get the best care possible. Since moving is a major life stressor, some seniors may experience relocation stress syndrome, with symptoms like confusion, loneliness, and anxiety. To help make the transition to assisted living as smooth as possible, it’s important to: 1) avoid rushing the process; 2) focus on their well-being; 3) make their new home look familiar with personal belongings; 4) help them get involved in their new community; and 5) ensure they have frequent visitors.
Yoga Practices for Better Sleep
Practicing yoga can help you get a peaceful night of deep sleep by releasing everything you’re holding onto mentally or physically. Including a relaxing yoga practice routine can help improve the quality and duration of your sleep, especially if you are a light sleeper, have limited time to sleep, or have insomnia. Three types of relaxing yoga practices: Yoga Nidra (yogic sleep) – a powerful way to control your body’s relaxation response; Restorative Yoga – promotes physical and mental relaxation; and Yin Yoga – targets the deep connective tissues for relaxation. We offer 16 virtual and live classes weekly to support your practice.

Ask The Expert
Q: I have glaucoma and dry eyes. My eye doctor says I should do warm compresses for my dryness, but won’t this raise my eye pressure?
A: You don’t have to worry. Problems with eye pressure come from within the eye, not from occasionally pressing a heating pad on the eyelids. Warm compresses usually work very well for dry eyes, but don’t affect the state of glaucoma one way or the other.
Acupuncture for Infertility
Roughly 16% of couples in Canada experience infertility. This number has doubled since the 1980s, Traditional Chinese Medicine can help to reverse these numbers. Some studies have found that acupuncture may help with things like sperm quality, motility and counts in men, and increased blood flow to the uterus, with an impact in their quality of their eggs and regulation of hormones in women. Acupuncture has been used as a protocol all over the world when couples going through IVF (in vitro fertilization) treatment, as it may increase the number of follicles produced and studies showed that the patients who received acupuncture before and after IVF transfer increased significantly their outcomes.
Common Kids’ Dental Problems
Your dentist can help diagnose and treat common dental problems in kids, including: Tooth Decay – can lead to sensitivity, pain, and gum issues. Keep track of when and how well your child brushes. Gingivitis – is a precursor to gum disease. Speak to your dentist if your child’s gums bleed when brushing and flossing. Thumb Sucking – if long-term, can cause an open bite and problems with eating and talking. Broken/Chipped Teeth – ensure your child wears a mouth guard when playing sports and seek treatment for broken/chipped teeth. Orthodontic Issues – your dentist may refer you to an orthodontist for these issues.
Massage & Yoga for Your Heart
It’s true that massage therapy and yoga cannot ‘undo’ a diagnosis or cardiovascular event. But It’s also true that they can help relieve and reduce pain. Massage and yoga can create suppleness and openness through the chest wall, ribcage, and shoulders, making breathing and moving more comfortable. These practices can bring us out of a fight-or-flight response, and lower our mental and emotional stress levels, both bringing down blood pressure but also, overall tension and holding patterns in the body. Ultimately, we heal when we give ourselves permission to be still, sit with our bodies, and listen to our hearts.
Chiropractic Care for Newborns
Why on earth should a newborn see a chiropractor? Chiropractic is about assessing and improving function rather than pain. Babies go through thousands of milestones in their first year of life alone. It is important that these milestones are reached and occur in the appropriate time frame. Assessing your baby’s nervous system function and removing any interference may allow your baby to appropriately reach these milestones. Adjustments for a baby look very different than for an adult. Often, all that is needed is sustained pressure – the same pressure you would use to check the ripeness of a tomato. It is safe, gentle and effective.
Information and Energy are Key to Health
Have you ever considered that in a state of total wellness, the body’s cells and organs always know what to do, and do it perfectly? The latest science is revealing the mechanisms that allow the body’s optimal functioning, and also what can cause it to lose resilience and efficacy, and to even malfunction. All of the science, along with NES’s extensive research and testing, has demonstrated that the root cause of malfunction – as well as the source of optimal functioning – exists beneath the physiology of the body. We must look to the physics underlying our biochemistry.
