Natural Strategies for Heart Health in Men

Did you know that up to 80% of premature cardiovascular disease is preventable with a healthy lifestyle? Yet, heart disease continues to be the leading cause of death in men. Here are my top lifestyle recommendations to prevent heart disease: (1) eat a plant based diet including fruits, veggies, fiber, beans/lentils, nuts/seeds, and whole grains. Keep sugar to a minimum. Check out the heart healthy mediterranean diet (2) quit smoking (3) get up and move every 30 mins (4) limit your alcohol (5) learn to manage your stress with meditation or yoga (6) get regular health screens to check your blood pressure, cholesterol and blood sugar.

Decluttering and Creating Flow

Did you know that our physical environment can affect our mental state? A cluttered countertop or disorganized closet can make us feel uneasy or change our mood. Here are some ways to improve the organization of your home and create a proper flow, free of physical (and mental) barriers. 1) Declutter countertops in your kitchen and bathroom. 2) Keep hallways free from clutter. 3) Consider using round tables in your home. 4) Choose furniture that properly fits the room it’s in. 5) Use a similar colour palette throughout the house. 6) Let the light in by not blocking any windows. Telephone Tree

The Telephone Tree program offers support services to seniors over the phone. Our volunteers make weekly social calls offering clients a chance to be heard by providing emotional support, companionship and a sense of community. Volunteers can also provide you with information and referral services as well as keep you informed about the programs and events in the community. It’s a great way to stay connected with the community from your home. Call us today if you would like to receive weekly calls.

Senior Service Connector

Imagine how you would feel if you were on a tight budget, and you just found out that you can get a reduced rate for your MSP costs or you qualify for The Shelter Aid for Elderly Renters (SAFER) program that helps make rents affordable for BC seniors with low to moderate incomes.
This is the kind of information and referrals that can make a real difference in people’s lives, and it’s a free service Seniors Come Share Society offers at different sites and events in our community, where trained volunteers distribute valuable information and resource materials. Last year alone, they connected over 6,492 seniors in the Surrey and White Rock areas to information and resources.
The Senior Service Connector Program provides trained volunteers at locations throughout Surrey and White Rock where they connect seniors and their friends and families to information about programs and services available to them in our community. Please call Shannen at 604-531-9400 ext.

Ask The Expert

Q: When I look at myself on the computer during a Zoom meeting, I notice my glasses look very reflective even though they have an anti-reflective coating. How could I fix that? A: If your anti-reflective coating has a blue sheen, it can reflect the bright bluish light that is coming from your screen, or from other cold LED light sources around you. Reducing the screen or ambient illumination would help. Changing the colour of your screen (using dark or night mode, or using filtering covers) would help too. As a last resort, you could try anti-reflective lenses with some other sheen than blue.

Tech Buddies & Computer Lessons

The Computer Lessons & Tech Buddies program offers basic tech tutorials, which also includes lessons on IPads, tablets, computers, laptops, smart phones and overall features of social media. The volunteers are available to meet you at the local libraries or the closest Seniors Come Share location. Please call the program coordinator at 604-531-9400 ext. 220.

The Sober Connection

Connection holds a remarkable power in our lives—especially in the relationships we nurture with ourselves, our community, and out in nature. Without connection, it’s easy to fall into the “half-life” I was stuck in, an existence haunted by ancestral pain and the constant playing out of old patterns.
Without connection, humans wither and decline. That’s why I created Solbrü elixirs. Solbrü is designed from the ground up to bolster connection, compassion, and self-healing. Embrace a healthier lifestyle, feel empowered—not disheartened. Set a positive example for yourself and others around you, I want you to feel loved—not shunned.

Prostate Health

Prostatic hyperplasia and urinary difficulties are caused by dysfunction in the Kidney and
Bladder organ systems. Pathogenic factors such as dampness accumulation, heat, or Qi
stagnation will obstruct the smooth function of the urinary system. They can be caused by
genetic factors, stress or improper diet. Treatment with herbal medicine will work to eliminate
the pathogenic factors while strengthening the person’s vitality to unblock urination and
regulate the urinary passages.
