Should you Bring Mom or Dad Home?

If you have a parent who is in hospital, lives in a retirement home or in a long-term care facility, you may be asking yourself, “would Mom or Dad be safer staying at home with me temporarily?” Families across the country are struggling with this dilemma. Given the challenges of preventing disease transmission, some experts are recommending that seniors who can stay elsewhere should do so. If you want to bring a senior parent home temporarily but you’re worried about how you’ll provide the level of care they need, consider home health care services.

Eye Coordination Problems and Learning Difficulties

When children continue to struggle with reading and learning despite all best efforts to help them, it can be very difficult to figure out what is needed. When an eye coordination problem is at the root of a child’s struggles, the signs are very easy to see – when you know what to look for. Unfortunately, the signs can easily be mistaken for behavior and attention problems. Keeping Your Immune System Strong

The good news about Covid-19 is that we’re getting through it day by day. The bad news is that we will be exposed to more viruses in the future, whether it’s a second wave of Covid-19 this fall, or another viral threat all together. The issue isn’t how strong is the virus, it’s how strong is your immune system? Now is the time to focus on strengthening your immune system so your body is ready, willing and able to deal with the next viral exposure. Experts such as Dr. Alex Vasquez DO, DC, ND, FACN recommends anti-viral formulas that contain a combination of hesperidin, zinc, vitamin D, C, A, curcumin and rutin, to name a few. Strengthening your immune system not only helps to protect you, it helps to protect your loved ones and the community.

Working from Home

In addition to setting up your home office as ergonomically as possible, getting up and moving frequently is important for your body’s health. Get up and move at least every hour. Take a short walk around your home or complete a task that gets you away from your desk. Once a day, get in physical activity for 30-60 minutes. Walk, bike or run! Do whatever makes you happy. Remember to take stretch breaks. Chest and upper back stretches help get the stiffness out of your neck and shoulders. Stretching hips flexors and glutes can also help with low back stiffness. We are offering Physiotherapy by Video until we can see you again in the clinic! Call for details 204-452-7142

Preventing Screen-Related Eye Strain

Most of us spend a lot of time on computers and other digital devices, and this can take a toll on our eyesight in the form of computer vision syndrome. This is a temporary vision condition that results from staring at a screen too long. Although you may wear regular glasses to correct vision problems, they are not the same as computer glasses, which can help with computer vision syndrome. Wearing prescription or non-prescription computer glasses, along with taking frequent breaks from looking at a screen, can help reduce eye strain and prevent related problems like headaches and dry eyes.

Stay Active While Working from Home

Self-isolation means fewer opportunities to be physically active if you are used to going to the gym or playing sports. Equally worryingly, the home environment also offers abundant opportunity to be sedentary. Exercise can help keep our immune system strong, and our bodies less susceptible to infections. So, what should we do? Alternate periods of sitting with standing by creating your own stand-up desk area. Try a yoga class on YouTube to stretch and relieve tension from your muscles. Get some work done in the garden or yard or play with your dog. It’s also a great time to try an online work out! Ask if your local gym offers this service.
