Time for Desk Fitness

If you have a desk job, chances are you’re spending nearly 8 hours a day sitting, not counting the sitting you do outside of work. All of this sitting can be tough on your body! To combat this, try getting in some desk workouts every 30 to 45 minutes. After a brief warm-up moving your arms and neck, try an exercise like this: With one arm behind your back and one hand grabbing your head, gently pull your ear toward your shoulder. Hold for 5 deep breaths. Taking just five minutes to stretch and move will make a big difference!

Holiday Season Safety for Pets

The holiday season presents many dangers for pets. Holiday treats such as rich, fatty scraps of meat, pork and poultry bones, alcoholic beverages, chocolates and other treats have been linked to pancreatitis in dogs. Xylitol, a sugar substitute, can cause a dog’s blood sugar to suddenly drop, potentially leading to kidney failure. Holiday plants like berries from mistletoe, holly, hibiscus, Christmas roses, and poinsettia are toxic to pets. Christmas tree water can be poisonous, and things like ornaments, hooks, tinsel, candles, lights and electrical wiring can all pose hazards to a pet’s wellbeing. Keep your pets safe this holiday season!

Daily Disposable Contact Lenses: For Kids & Adults

The original idea of contact lenses goes back to the year 1508 and the Italian inventor, Leonardo DaVinci who was the first on record to come up with this idea. Naturally, technology has advanced incredibly over the 500+ years since then. More recently over the past few years, contact lens manufacturers continually come up with different ways to make contact lenses more comfortable and the safest they have ever been. People often complain of dry, red, irritated eyes when wearing contact lenses. Thanks to technology, advances keep making contacts more permeable, moist and comfortable. Avoid the Winter Blues

The Canadian Physical Activity Guidelines suggest adults should perform at least 150 minutes of moderate aerobic exercise per week, as well as two sessions of muscle and bone strengthening activities, to achieve physical AND mental health benefits. With winter coming, and the challenges of leaving home, this can seem daunting! Your physiotherapist can tailor an exercise program designed specifically for you to do inside with minimal space (to help avoid the cold weather!), and with equipment everyone has around their home. At 30 minutes per day, the benefits of exercise are countless, while the side effects are minimal.

Achieving a Healthy Core

A healthy core needs two main things: strength and mobility. This is what makes it functional. A functional core will keep you upright and maintain proper posture, support you safely through your daily movements, and protect your organs. In addition, your risk of herniation (both disc and organ) will also decrease with a healthy core. Working on movement progressions (beginner, intermediate, and advanced), along with generally moving more than you are sedentary, is a great way to keep your core healthy. Talk to your chiropractor about ways you can safely strengthen and support your core and feel better!

Healing Cell Signaling

The human body has between fifty and three hundred billion cells. Inside every cell, we have mitochondria (some cells have thousands). Mitochondria, when functioning properly, produce redox signaling molecules. Cell signaling carry life-sustaining messages to cells, and your cells respond to those messages, keeping you alive and healthy. As we age, cell signal weakens they can disrupt gene expression. But if you had a way to regulate gene activity with redox signaling molecules, cellular communication would remain strong. Our bodies heal on a cellular level, and the genetic instructions that dictate healthy body function don’t get through without redox signaling.

Best Treatment For Osteoarthritis

When it comes to osteoarthritis, the best approach is to treat it from the inside and the outside. Specialized nutritional formulations work on the inside of the body by turning off the inflammation-producing mechanisms and strengthening the joints. N.I.R. Laser Therapy works on the outside of the body by decreasing inflammation, thereby reducing pain and stiffness. The laser penetrates to a level that breaks up scar tissue to shrink nodules and increase mobility. Following a multi-faceted approach that feeds and stimulates the joints at the same time greatly enhances the body’s ability to respond. That is why even long-term, severe arthritis sufferers can get relief.

Love Keeps You Healthy

Being in love not only gives you a bounce in your step, but it also has several proven health benefits. When you are in love, your brain produces a hormone called dopamine that contributes to feelings of elation, pleasure, optimism, energy, and a sense of well-being. Physical touch, such as hugging, releases a hormone called oxytocin, which lowers stress hormones. Studies have demonstrated that people releasing these hormones have stronger immune systems, lower blood pressure, greater resistance to colds and flus, and decreased stress and depression. Finding your life partner has more benefits than we once realized!
