Gardening & Chiropractic Care

Warmer temperatures and sunny days have finally arrived! This might entice you to do a bit of gardening. Gardening can be an extremely rewarding pastime, but it can also come with an increased risk of aches and pains. The excessive amount of bending over to tend to the plants, lifting heavy bags of soil, straining to dig and water the plants, and all other movements that are a part of gardening can lead to extreme problems with the alignment of our musculoskeletal system. If you’ve injured yourself flexing your green thumb or are interested in injury prevention, go see your chiropractor.

Staying Healthy After Menopause

Two major health conditions that can affect women after menopause are osteoporosis and heart disease. To protect yourself against osteoporosis, take 1,200 mg of calcium per day, along with 800 to 2,000 IU of vitamin D daily if you are over 50 years old (be sure to talk to your doctor). Stay active, specifically with weight-bearing exercises, stop smoking, avoid caffeine, and eat a well-balanced diet. Smoking cessation, healthy eating, and exercise can all help to protect you against heart disease as well. Monitoring your blood pressure, reducing stress, and watching your weight are also important.

Adjusting to Dentures

While new dentures are custom fit to your unique mouth shape, it is essential to remember that they are an artificial substitute for your natural teeth and will not feel or function equal to them. The denture may feel thick, bulky and foreign until your mouth and facial muscles have adapted to it. Some patients feel quite comfortable within a week, while others require a little longer. Time, patience and will power will be your greatest allies. Some adjustments may be required early on, but the feeling of a very full mouth will subside and in time your denture will feel quite natural.

Health Comes in Many Ways, But Easy is Best!

Staying healthy isn’t always easy and on busy days it can be even harder but there are some simple, affordable options that can make a real difference. Take a cup of the right tea for example. Used for centuries and enjoyed the world-over, tea is quick to make, convenient to carry, easy on the budget and very effective. That’s why specialty teas that are packed full of goodness to target particular health issues are raising in popularity and fast-becoming a ‘go to’ for those who care to make a real difference in their health. Sooth your day and feel YOUR best!

Celebrating Women

May is a month to celebrate women. Take a moment to breathe and just be. So much time is spent doing. You deserve your time too. Here are a few suggestions. Get more rest, whether it’s by taking naps or relaxing on the couch with a good book. Aim for five to ten servings of fruits/veggies a day; the fresher, the better. Talk with friends and take time to listen to their advice. A fresh perspective can be lovely. And of course, a little bit of exercise every day can make your body happy. Fresh air is health care too, help yourself! You’ll thank yourself!
