A Solution for Cellulite

When we fall from balance, the cells in the body are at war with gravity. The tissue has to find a way to keep us upright, and it does this by gripping on to the bony surfaces to create stability. This is what creates the appearance of cellulite. Fascia curls around the bones in our legs, gripping the bone and curling more and more as the fascia ‘freezes’ and increases in size. The ‘frozen’ fascia pulls the skin down toward the bone in the leg. This causes a ‘dimpling’ of the skin on the surface, creating cellulite.

The solution to cellulite is to melt the fascia in the legs. To do this we use the block with block therapy and diaphragmatic breathing. As we melt through the frozen fascia in the leg, it releases the pressure on the skin, therefore reversing the ‘dimpling’. The skin becomes more healthy and vibrant, looking younger and the cellulite begins to vanish.

Pet Health: Canicross

Canicross is the sport of running with your dog. Let’s face it. When it comes to running, six legs are better than two. Running with your dog is a great way to enjoy the world, get fit, and bond with your dog. However, before you get started here are some tips.

Tip #1 – You want to check with your family doctor and your dog’s veterinarian to make sure you and your dog have no restrictions when it comes to running.

Tip #2 – Making sure you have the proper gear such as a running harness for your dog, a bungee tether that connects you and your dog and a thick belt that lessens the load on your lower back. Having proper clothing and shoes are excellent tools for preventing injuries.

Tip #3 – Do not be a weekend warrior. Start slow, be consistent and build up to a fitness goal for both human and dog.

Shingles Vaccine: Should you get it?

Shingles is a viral infection that is caused by the varicella-zoster virus, the same virus that causes chickenpox. After you’ve had chickenpox, the virus lies inactive in nerve tissue and can reactivate as shingles years later. Shingles can occur anywhere on your body but it most often appears as a very painful, blistering rash along your torso. It’s estimated that nearly 1 in 3 people will experience shingles in their lifetime, with an increased risk if you’re over 50 years old.

The shingles vaccine, Zostavax II, is approved for adults age 50 or older and it’s recommended if you’re 60 or above, even if you’ve had shingles before. This is because shingles can occur more than once! The vaccine decreases the risk of shingles by about half. While it cannot completely prevent everyone that receives it from getting shingles, it can help reduce the intensity and duration of shingles related pain in these people.

Talk to your pharmacist or physician to see if the shingles vaccine is right for you!

Brown Water?

Brown-colored water is a common complaint of householders. Elevated levels of manganese are the major cause of the significant increase in reports of brown water. Manganese levels have risen over the years in Shoal Lake, Winnipeg’s water source. Another common cause of brown-colored water is a rusty pipe. Pressure fluctuations inside a water pipe tend to loosen the rust that had been clinging to the inner walls.

Rusty water is a breeding ground for illness-causing bacteria. Also, a build-up of rust tends to corrode and crack pipes that in turn, exposes your water supply to contaminants in the air and also increases the chances of leaks in your home. Leaky pipes are one of the most common causes of mold and mildew infestation in homes. So, there you go; the rust in your brown-colored water actually has the potential to escalate into a major health hazard!
