Workplace Wellness

Creating a Resolution to Model.
Want to make your work a place where you can be healthy and productive? The best way to do that is to be an Ambassador of well-being yourself. All it takes is some passion, energy and action. Ask your boss if you can spend 5% of your week (only 30 mins!) to generate workplace health and productivity ideas. Some ideas to get you started include walking meetings, putting up posters by the elevator to encourage stair use, organizing a monthly healthy potluck, or dedicating a meeting room for mindfulness or meditation during the lunch hour.

Make Saving a Life Your New Year’s Resolution

Did you know that eating donuts can help save lives? The blood donation process takes one hour from start to finish, but only 10 of those minutes are actually spent donating blood. After your donation, having a donut, cookie, and juice helps your body recover by reintroducing fluids, sugars, and salts back into your system. Often, your unit of blood will be used within five days of your donation. Consider donating with friends and family in 2020 to support local patients in need. Book online at www.blood.ca

Acupuncture for Digestive Problems

Acupuncture is a safe and effective way to naturally treat many acute and chronic conditions of the digestive system, including nausea and vomiting, functional disorders (irritable bowel syndrome, constipation, and diarrhea), peptic ulcer disease, Crohn’s disease, postoperative ileus (a predictable delay in gastrointestinal motility that occurs after abdominal surgery), and gall stone disease. Digestive disorders may be caused by a variety of factors, such as chronic stress and other dietary issues. Acupuncture, in conjunction with medical treatments, can help with digestive imbalance by reducing stress and regulating the endocrine and nervous system hyperactivity that often accompanies digestive disorder patterns.

Fight Colds & Flu

Your immune system needs a strong thymus and spleen to produce antibodies and specialized white blood cells that help prevent disease. Do you know how yours are functioning? Nutritional testing or Biofeedback are great ways to find out if there is a weakness or imbalance in these immune organs. If a weakness or imbalance is identified, specific nutrient formulations designed to naturally support and strengthen the thymus, spleen and immune system can be taken. This will help you to better fight against influenza, rhinovirus (common cold), pneumonia, and other bacterial infections – or avoid them altogether.

Still Stressed from the Holidays?

So you survived the holiday season. I will wager that it was not always a holiday! The Christmas holiday time is a very stressful period where we find ourselves caught between family obligations, super rich foods and increased spending. This is a recipe for an emotional collapse or major stress reactions. All this stress lives in your spinal system and manifests as fatigue, headaches, neck aches and lower back pain. Sound Familiar? This can be prevented and or relieved with chiropractic care.

Have a Smoke-Free 2020

Something about leaving an old year behind and looking ahead at the clean slate of a new one inspires most of us to try. We think about making lasting positive changes in our lives, and we do it with hope and enthusiasm. If you’re planning to start the new year without a cigarette in your hand, but have had no luck sticking with past New Year’s resolutions, consider laser therapy. Laser therapy can help to control cravings and withdrawal symptoms. In clinical studies, patients report a noticeable reduction in cravings, and have a higher chance of success in quitting.

What is a Hearing Evaluation Like?

To start, you will meet with a Hearing Care professional and a thorough history will be taken. An inspection of your ears will take place to confirm good ear health. You will be asked to respond to tones in a sound treated room. The tones tested are specific and range from the low to high frequencies that are important for hearing speech. You will undergo word testing to measure your communication abilities and how you hear speech in quiet and in noisy situations. Results are recorded to guide the Hearing Care Professional in forming a treatment plan if hearing loss is present.

Healthy Holiday Snacks for the Office

It’s that time of year and we are surrounded with chocolates, cookies and cakes. If you want to keep your waistline in check during the holiday season so you can look fab on New Year’s, try healthier options like nuts, dried fruit, dark chocolate-dipped strawberries, fruit kabobs, or no-bake energy bites. Want a loner term approach? Start up a Fruity Friday’s program where staff alternate bringing a bowl of fruit to the office. Use a basic potluck sign up sheet, post it in the lunchroom, and you’re set!
