Diabetes and Your Feet

Do you have diabetes? If so, you are at higher risk of having foot problems. Diabetic foot problems are usually the result of; poor circulation, neuropathy (decreased sensation) and increased resistance to infection. Warning signs that should be brought to the attention of medical professionals include, swelling of the foot or ankle, skin color changes or open sores on the feet that are slow to heal. The podiatrist, as an integral part of a diabetes treatment team, has documented success in the prevention of amputations.
