“Go Where the Pain Ain’t” – Dr. Ida Rolf

Sometimes, where you feel the pain is not where the actual issue is. For example, when you lift your arm in front of you, the first muscle that fires is your soleus – a muscle in your calf. It engages to counter-balance the weight shift so that you don’t fall over. You could have trouble with your shoulder because your calf isn’t firing properly. Your body cares more about safety (not falling over), so it prioritizes that. During a Rolfing session, when I work far from your area of concern, I am ensuring I get to the root cause of the problem.
