PCOS and Acupuncture

Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is a hormonal disorder common among women of reproductive age. Women with PCOS may have infrequent or prolonged menstrual periods or excess testosterone levels. The ovaries may develop numerous small collections of fluid and fail to release eggs regularly. Acupuncture increases blood flow to the uterus, which increases uterine wall thickness, an important factor for fertility. It also increases endorphin production to help regulate reproduction, and it can lower stress hormones that can affect fertility. Acupuncture does this by promoting menstruation, regulating phases, and reducing manifestations of PCOS. Naomi Johnson, Hekla Acupuncture and Wellness, HeklaAcupuncture.com
