St. Raphael Wellness Centre

We are St Raphael Wellness Centre (SRWC) a non-profit, charitable organisation based in Winnipeg serving the needs of individuals and families affected by addiction.

Our Story

SRWC Red BuildingFrom our beginnings in the early 1970s as a small church-based addictions support service, we grew into a helping agency that, in the early 1990s sought to introduce European-influenced housing and addiction treatment to Winnipeg. Since then we have re-focused on meeting the needs of those in pre- and post-treatment.

While our history has informed our holistic approach to addictions recovery—we believe that personal spirituality is one of many areas that are included in well-balanced living—our programs are not faith-based and we welcome Participants from all cultural and religious backgrounds.

Governance

SRWC is governed by a Board of Directors that sets the strategic direction of the organisation in line with its mission and values.

Our Mission

To provide a welcoming environment for healing where individuals, family and friends affected by addictions are accompanied in their journey towards recovery in body, mind and spirit.

Our Values

Staff

Our STAFF commits to uphold the following values as we pursue our mission and vision:

  • TRUST – We are reliable, dependable and accountable for our actions.
  • RESPECT – We demonstrate fairness, consistency and compassion in our interactions with others.
  • UNDERSTANDING – We are non-judgmental, supportive and empathetic.
  • INTEGRITY – We conduct ourselves at all times in a professional and ethical manner.  Honesty, openness and transparency are the hallmarks of the way we service our participants.
  • TEAMWORK – We work in collaboration with every member of our staff, participants, their families, and other partner organizations to facilitate and sustain recovery.

Participants

Our PARTICIPANTS are challenged to uphold the following values as they pursue recovery from addictions and seek optimal physical, mental, social, emotional and spiritual health.

  • HONESTY – I will participate in an open, honest and responsible manner that will foster a healing attitude.
  • PERSISTANCE – I will commit to the completion of the program with discipline, optimism and a desire to learn.
  • COURAGE – I recognize that the journey may present challenges that I must strive to overcome with the support of the program and others.
  • RESPECT – I respect the fact that the Staff has my best interests in mind and I will participate with other Participants in a respectful manner.

How We Provide Our Services

Generous contributions from individual grants as well as funding from Province of Manitoba Healthy Living, mean we are able to provide services to our Participants while only charging a sliding-scale administrative fee.

Our supportive and comprehensive intake process ensures the women and men who need our support in pre- and post-treatment are matched with the program that best meets their needs.

Aspire Dance Studios

At Aspire Dance Studios we truly want everybody to feel welcome. We have a spacious and inviting lobby and waiting room area for parents and siblings which includes toys and coloring books for children as well as a TV and comfortable seating. We have ample parking behind our building as well as a one way side street in which parents can park. For our students, we have a large area outside the studio where they can stretch/warm up for their next class.

Aspire Dance Studios was started in 2016 by Ms. Lindsie for the sole purpose of providing a safe, FUN and exciting atmosphere for all dancers. As a young dancer, Ms. Lindsie always admired and looked up to her teachers and absolutely fell in love with the art of dance and performing. What we hope to provide is that same experience for all our students and to build a passion for dance that goes beyond the studio walls. Dance is more than just steps, it’s a way of life and a way to constantly learn and challenge yourself to step outside your comfort zone so as to experience all that dance has to offer. At Aspire Dance Studios, we believe that our teachers can learn just as much the students as they can from the teachers.

Ms. Lindsie has been involved with dancing and performing for more than 20 years both recreationally and competitively. She has performed in countless competitions and events in Canada, The United States and Mexico. She has over 10 years of experience teaching all ages, levels and styles of dance. She has extensively studied jazz, lyrical, hip hop, musical theatre and ballet and has completed her Royal Academy of Dance (RAD) exams up to Advanced 1 in ballet. In 2011, Ms. Lindsie stepped outside her comfort zone and took her love of dance to Mexico, where she learned countless styles such as mambo, salsa, bachata, tango, acro, rumba, broadway, samba, hula, vallenato, afro as well as many more! She performed six days a week for six months and was so excited to come back to Winnipeg to share what she learned with her students.

Jason Harvey Law

Personal Injury

Jason Harvey is a personal injury lawyer with over 10 years of experience in the legal field. Jason Harvey helps accident victims receive fair payouts from insurance companies. Insurance adjusters are trained to pay out as little as possible for car insurance claims. After your accident, an insurance adjuster may have called you and come over to your home to attempt to negotiate a settlement. The adjuster is hoping that you will take the quick settlement instead of fighting for the full amount to which you are entitled. If you have been injured, we can help you fight the insurance companies to ensure that you get a fair amount of compensation. Don’t end up taking less than that to which you are entitled. After an accident, you are entitled to compensation for your pain and suffering, medical expenses, lost wages, and more. Jason Harvey handles various types of insurance claims that require a lawyer, offering free legal consultations to clients all across Manitoba. You are not obligated to anything after that initial consultation. If we take your case, you do not pay us anything unless you receive a financial award.

TYPES OF ACCIDENTS

  • Aircraft Accidents
  • ATV Accidents
  • Bike Accident
  • Boating & Watercraft Accidents
  • Diving & Swimming Accidents
  • Faulty Product & Product Liability
  • Pedestrian Accidents
  • Slip and Fall Accident

Disability Insurance Claims

While you may have disability insurance coverage through a group policy with your employer or your own private disability policy, after an illness, accident or injury the disability insurer may refuse to pay any benefits or acknowledge the full extent of the coverage for which you have paid premiums towards. Disability insurance contracts can be complex legal documents that require an experienced lawyer’s assistance in interpreting and to assist you in building a successful case against a disability insurer when you are disabled from returning to work.  Often, these cases require not only legal interpretation of your policy, but medical interpretation of the documents from your medical providers.

Jason Harvey and his team offer free initial consultations and have represented clients regarding disability insurance claims in a variety of circumstances:

  • Short term disability or weekly indemnity payments
  • Long term disability related to your own occupation
  • Long term disability related to any occupation
  • Canada Pension Plan (CPP) disability

Aside from requiring additional medical information or claiming that the medical information does not support your disability, sometimes disability insurers rely upon more technical legal principles, contained in your policy, to deny coverage.  We have dealt with most of these types of denials, including:

  • Pre-existing conditions
  • Coverage was not in place
  • Coverage was terminated prior to disability
  • Not being in the care of a duly qualified physician
  • Failing to abide by the recommendations of a treatment provider
  • The reasonability of finding another occupation
  • Denials based upon Independent Medical Examinations or Reviews, Transferable skills Analysis or Functional Capacity Evaluations

When disability and an inability to work enters your life, it is a stressful and uncertain period for you and your family.  You may feel like the insurance company is holding all the cards.  We can help.  We have resolved many files, with virtually all of the major insurance providers across Canada, including:

  • Blue Cross
  • Great West Life Assurance Company
  • Sun Life
  • Manulife
  • Desjardins
  • SSQ
  • RBC
  • Industrial Alliance
  • Health Employees Benefit Plan (HEBP)
  • Province of Manitoba
  • Fenchurch

Medical Malpractice

Essentially, medical malpractice is negligence on the part of a doctor (or other health care provider). When a doctor (or other health care provider) departs from accepted medical practice, and injury or death of a patient occurs as a result of that deviation from the standard of care, the doctor (or other health care provider) can be liable for their actions. Under such circumstances, the patient is entitled to recover for past and future: pain and suffering, medical expenses, and loss of earnings. A spouse (or if a minor is injured, the parents) can recover for loss of services. In a death case, the next of kin can recover for their loss. Medical Malpractice includes the following but is not limited to the following claims:

  • Failure to diagnose cancer

  • Delay to treat or failure to diagnose a medical condition

  • Cerebral palsy & brain damage

  • Birth injury

  • Erb’s palsy

  • Gynecologic surgical malpractice

  • Hospital Negligence

  • Emergency room errors

  • Medication Errors

  • Surgical errors & complications

  • Anesthesia malpractice

  • Failure to diagnose hydrocephalus

  • Extravasation Of Chemotherapeutic Agents

  • Abdominal Compartment Syndrome

  • Failure to diagnose compartment syndrome

  • Failure to diagnose injury to the popliteal artery

  • Osteoradionecrosis

If necessary, we retain expert accountants and financial analysts because many medical malpractice cases have their own set of associated losses including lost wages, the cost of care and many other monetary costs. In order to accurately assess what these costs will be for the remainder of a victim’s life, we use financial professionals to derive fair resolutions for injury victims.
