Decluttering is the first step to successful Downsizing. Decluttering has many advantages. It relieves stress through organization, makes room for those things you really need and use, prepares your house for sale and reduces family tension while settling an estate. One of the most important considerations is the fact that 80% of the time we only use 20% of our stuff. This helps us define the first things to consider passing on to family members or donating. Meet your Seniors Real Estate Specialist, SRES®, Karen Clouthier – REALTOR® with The Realty Consultants Group in Saskatoon for more information on downsizing.

Home but Not Alone
When planning for a loved one who wants to stay at home, don’t wait until aging conditions threaten independence. Your elders deserve the best care, and having one-on-one support today could make a big difference tomorrow. Have openhanded, openhearted talks about their plans and goals for living at this age and stage, their present and future needs and your wishes for them. To help start that conversation, ask to receive our “Better What’s Next” Toolkit. By addressing aging conditions early you can improve their comfort, safety, and quality of life. Be proactive in providing the care and support they need.

Managing Dry Skin & Eczema
Cold weather and low humidity can strip the skin of its natural moisture, often worsening dryness and eczema. To protect the skin barrier, use gentle, fragrance-free cleansers and apply a rich moisturizer immediately after bathing to lock in hydration. Avoid long, hot showers, which can further dry out the skin. Using a humidifier indoors helps maintain moisture in the air, preventing irritation and flaking. For eczema flare-ups, applying medicated creams as prescribed and wearing soft, breathable fabrics can reduce itching. Consistent skincare and environmental adjustments can greatly improve comfort and prevent painful dryness throughout the winter season.
